You never get too old for a Flash Mob. About 60 members of The Villages Twirlers, yep we have a club for twirlers blended into the crowd at The Lake Sumter Landing Square and were dressed in outfits from the 20 years the group has been together. Two songs into the first set the DJ at the square requested to clear the dance floor and started playing “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen and a solo twirler came to the then more and each time the leader blew her whistle more joined in until all 60 twirlers were preforming. At the end, they lined up and bowed to the cheering fans!
The Village Twirlers started in 2003 as a group of 9 learning baton twirling when they decided to start a club here in The Villages. The group has grown over the years and has become a hit both in The Villages and beyond. The group marches in many area parades including the Gator and Citrus Bowl Parades. The have performed a halftime show at an Orlando Magic NBA game.
What’s a Twirler group without a drum corps? In 2007, they formed their drum corps to provide the beat they needed to perform. So, baton twirling or drumming in your background? The Villages, Florida just might be the place to be!
