If you drive on the west side of County Road 466 you can miss the new construction of a 55,000-square foot concrete building. What you are watching being built is a new Hobby Lobby which is a great addition to the retail needs of The Villages, Florida and surrounding area. A confirmed opening date has not been announced but they speculate later this year.
Hobby Lobby was founded in 1972 and currently operates 956 retail stores stocked with a treasure trove of over 80,000 arts, crafts, hobbies, home accent, seasonal, and custom framing products. Currently those wanting to visit a Hobby Lobby must drive to either Ocala or Mount Dora. From Hobby Lobby’s website:
“In 1970, David and Barbara Green took out a $600 loan to begin making miniature picture frames out of their home. Two years later, the fledgling enterprise opened a 300-square-foot store in Oklahoma City, and Hobby Lobby was born. Today, with more than 900 stores, Hobby Lobby is the largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world with over 43,000 employees and operating in forty-seven states.”
