Lunching with Active Rainers in Midtown Sacramento

Tom BraatzLori PolkYou'll never guess who came to my office last week! OK, a couple photos here will give you a hint. None other than the wonderful and talented stager from Granite Bay, Lori Polk and that serial entrepreneur, multi-faceted real estate broker from Wisconsin, Tom Braatz. When they arrived, I had an emergency offer to prepare -- you know the type, buyers were thinking about buying a home and on the way to the airport decided they must put in an offer. Since it was a Land Park home they were buying, there was another counter floating around, so we had to act fast. I apologized at not being readily available, but Tom and Lori were very accommodating and laid back about it.

It was a sheer pleasure to meet with such an energy-filled couple. And they're just like you'd imagine, charming and beautiful people. Tom's energy alone can fill a room; he's busting at the seams with enthusiasm.

We walked across the street to have lunch at G.V. Hurley's on J Street and 28th. They were both sensible diners and ordered salads with their healthy-sounding sandwiches. Me? I opted for a burger and fries. And we talked! We talked for three solid hours. I can't remember the last time I had such fun with real estate professionals. I swear, if you ever have a chance to meet up with fellow Active Rainers, whether it's in your own community or out-of-state, you might want to jump at the chance.

Tom and Lori are not only witty, funny and amusing, but they are extremely passionate about what they do, and it's reflected in their words and actions. One of the traits we both share is extreme honesty. They live and breathe their ethics and integrity, and I love it. We sometimes finished each other sentences and all three of us practically talked at the same time!

Here's the kicker: It's entirely possible that Tom Braatz will move to Sacramento, and I will do everything in my power to help in any way that I can.

Tom and Lori, if you are reading this, let me say it was my sincere pleasure to have met you, and I have a sneaky suspicion we are on our way to becoming fast friends.

I would love to be your Realtor® in Akron Ohio!

That's funny that you brought this up. I met a fellow ActiveRainer in Cleveland recently and we hit it off like you would not believe. Now I am easy to get along with anyway and I love people, but this was just a little different and I did not think about it until your post. Is it the camaraderie, the common bond of AR, the hard work we do here or just the appreciation of someone that works their profession as we do? Interesting thoughts, thank you.

Thanks, Melody.

Hi David: I know exactly what you mean. There's an instant connection, and you sort of feel like you've known them forever. I find people are very much like the impression they give you from their writing. Some are all glitzy and ditzy, and others, like Tom and Lori, are sincere, down-to-earth fun people and amazing human beings. They're friends before becoming friends.

Elizabeth, as nice a person as you are I'm sure them meeting you was just as equally as meaningful and a special event. If Tom comes to Sacramento that will be great for you all. Thanks for sharing how when Rainers get together good things happen.

Hey Tom: I put a few feelers out for you already. You are just as kind and sweet in person as you are with your writing.

Hi Lori: I love the fact you are into home remodeling, too. We'll have to talk more about that. I mudded my kitchen ceiling yesterday, after taking down all the scallopy thingies. I prefer to tape my cracks with fiberglass and use heavy mud so they won't happen again, and after talking to the Sheetrocking guys, I'm not so certain they would take preventative measures on the job. Which is why I did the starter mudding for them. :) As I was dripping in joint compound, an associate called to see if I wanted to split a listing with her. She held open one of my listings on Saturday and a guy walked in who has a home in Land Park to sell. I was thinking, "Oh, if she could only see me now, in tattered clothing and mud stuck in my hair." LOL.

Hi Gary: If I ever get down to Dallas, I'll look you up. I have a close girlfriend who lives there now. So, it's feasible I could end up in Dallas before the year is out. For a visit, that is.

Hey Elizabeth, that is so cool! I love this post! It even feel exciting to read about it. I can't wait for Paddy to get back. I'm taking my kids to hang out in her neck of the woods, and lunch with the minions should be very interesting at the "Cup and Saucer." My six year old likes UFOs...  :-)

Hi Elizabeth, Paddy had a very interesting post about UFOs and the "Cup and Saucer" is a diner based upon UFO sightings in her neck of the woods. I can't wait to check it out. Sounds like a promising theme for little people.
