Everything I needed to learn about real estate, I learned in Kindergarten

Well....not everything.

Late last night I put together a quick email about some investment opportunities and sent it to my database. After I sent it, I realized that I made a typo in the subject. Instead of "Commercial" I typed "Commercia". It's a little thing, but not to me.

I take great pride in the quality of materials I send to my clients. Even emails. I've always been overly anal about spelling, as I think it makes people come across as uneducated.

I'm constantly shocked to see how many misspellings are used in MLS listings. Simple words like dining (not dinning), definitely (not definately), refrigerator (not refridgerator), maintenance (not maintainence), etc.

Folks, we're professionals. We owe it to our clients to properly market and sell their homes and to be able to spell properly (especially the dining room). We also owe it to ourselves. REALTORS are always fighting the stigma of being overpaid and undereducated. Let's not give naysayers more fuel for their fire.

Please don't overlook the importance of spell check. If you're on a listing presentation and the prospective client sees that you have misspellings in previous listings, what are the odds you're getting that listing.

Spell check only takes a few seconds.
