Did Sarah Palin's $150,000 Wardrobe do its job?

Everyone is talking about Sarah Palin's expenditure of $150,000 for clothes for the campaign trail. In defense of her personal shoppers, it is difficult to assemble a wardrobe in a short period of time without making compromises in style, color or price. When I shop for a client, I take all these into consideration and may come up with only three or four items in a single shopping stint. Buying an expensive designer jacket or suit doesn't guarantee that you will make the impact that you should if the style and color is not right. Impact is everything. When it comes to image, the devil is in the details, but the sum total is greater than all its parts. And that sum total is the impact you make. Or don't make.

In my opinion, very few of the items Sarah Palin wore made the kind of impact she should have made. The grey Valentino jacket, for example, is too washed out and makes her look less dynamic and powerful.  None of the clothes were accessorized well. In addition, Palin needed a bolder lipstick. Look at the scoop-neck black suit for example, and you'll see that is looks very austere without lipstick and accessories. Lastly, the green jacket is "sweet" but it makes very little impact in terms of presence. All in all, Palin paid too much for what she got, and the blame must go to her personal shoppers and image consultants.

I'm not sure I can justify any clothing anyone would buy for a the purpose of a month's worth of business.  However, I am in 100% support of Sarah!  Nice blog Sandy!

Only the people who can't find anything to write about are writing about Sarah's clothes.  To me it's a non issue.  They should be sharing the real issues to improve this country.  Just call me a country bumpkin, my wife makes me wear black socks when I get dressed, or else I'd still be using the white socks from the 50's.  Love them.  P.S.  I'll bet those sales clerks were happy.

What do you make of one of pundit's defence that "wardrobe repeats are a no-no"?

Sarah Palin is an attractive woman.  She looks great in most clothes she wears, but I think for $150,000, we (the public) should've really been blown away by her pricier designer threads.   Also, wanted to mention that you chose a great blog topic.  I wish that I would've thought of it.

Sandy, I about died when I heard that they spent $150,000 on that wardrobe because my thoughts were, well, except I did like the red shoes, "isn't anybody going to help this busy woman out and get her something that works for her?"  For me it wasn't so much about the money but the look it didn't achieve.  Somebody dressed her, right?  Did they get a "C" in the class?  I watched JFK for two reasons:  (a) his speeches; and (b) Jackie!  The bottom is you can't put someone in a certain suit, give them a certain look and style if it isn't them.  But those short jackets were nightmares as far as I was concerned.  I agree with you Sarah!

I have never based my vote on clothes and never will.

Sarah Palin's personal shopper did not do a great job.  Those clothes are not worth $150,000.

Her wardrobe is to get her through the election which was only a couple of months.  In my 30+ years, I don't think I've spent $150k total and that's for a year 'round wardrobe including prom, homecoming, and wedding dresses.  And to give everything to charity?  Huh?

This is disturbing.  There's a whole lot more to Sarah Palin than her wardrobe.  I personally did not notice a thing she was wearing, nor did I notice what any of the others were wearing.  Holy Cow.
