A "Convenient" Truth

By
Real Estate Agent with Fathom Realty West Sound WA State 52404

It always amazes me how so many real estate agents will try all the latest and greatest marketing gimmicks to attract new clients, but completely ignore or neglect the easiest and most basic principles of our business.

Case in point: I am representing some Sellers on a really cool restored Turn-of-the-Century farmhouse on acreage. We went under contract with some Buyers just a week after going on market, but the deal fell through due to some very unfortunate appraisal issues.

Suddenly, a couple weeks ago, I got a phone call from out of the blue....

Hey Luke! The 'Rest of the Story' is just a click away. It even opens up in a seperate window. How easy is that? There's a whole HUGE blogosphere out there!

Right on the money. It's like the new shiny thing is all they can focus on. In my opinion, you gotta pin down the basics, then you can start seeing where the new shiny thing fits in.

Good things happen to those who are willing to go the extra mile.  I wonder how many agents would not have dropped what they are doing to show the property.

Rich, great story.  It was worth the extra click.  Luke's such a big baby!

If I do not have an appointment with someone else, I am always willing to accommodate sign calls as I am the only one whose schedule is being switched around.  It goes without saying that this isn't always possible.  If there's a third party whose schedule will be impacted I try to schedule it another time that is convenient for the buyers.  Congratulations on the sale!

Maggie - thanks! It's hard sometimes trying to determine where best to publish my article. I needed to put something fresh up on SoundBiteBlog, so I posted it there, rather than here. Oh well! Thanks for your comments!

Randy - The Buyers told me they had called on a number of signs. I was the first one to return their call, and be willing to meet them. Amazing!

Robert - so many times we can't see the forest for the trees, we're so focused on a marketing plan or program, that we forget the most simple and basic principles. Thanks for sharing your thoughts...

I read your whole Blog on the other site and it was a good kick in the pants.  It is easy to get "me" focussed in our business and that is deadly.  We have to stay customer focussed and deliver what they need in a way that makes it seem almost intuitive.  That creates Raving Fans and that creates long term success and significance.

Hi Rich, I came back and did a click through. It was painless and not all that annoying this time. Creature of habit, is what I think, is the main obstacle for some people.

One suggestion to help make it seamless would be when you click over from here have the link open at the  start of the next word or sentence on your Soundbite page.

That way the reader doesn't have to scroll down to find where they left off here on AR.

A good example of this is on Curt Shillings blog (Pitcher of the Boston Red Sox).

Mark should be able to insert an anchor tag to make this possible.

Thanks Jay

Jay -  that's not a bad idea. Although many times the 'teaser' isn't exactly the same as the 'lead-in' for the parent article. But your point is a valid one. I'll confer with my resident techno-geek and see what he thinks!
