Is it Worth It To GO Public?|Statistically Speaking|A Very Plain Post

There is something about taking time to write and research, or blog--that makes the time spent worthwhile ONLY if the blogger receives some comments, or at minimum--views then clicks.

It takes more guts to blog publicly than to blog to members only. It takes a strong willed Real Estate Professional to continually blog to Localism. Why? It is more likely that the Localism Blogger will end up with 0 comments. (Ask me how I know this:-)

So, if no one comments--how do you know anyone found your blog? On your home page, look over to the left side and scroll down until you see statistics. Wahla! Comments|Views|Clicks. Also, you can Google yourself or your blog title. You may be shocked to see how quickly you are on page 1 or 2 right along with hundreds of comments per post bloggers.

It seems that a rule of thumb could be that the more focused you get; possibly the fewer clicks and views, but those who do click and view could more likely be a pending mutual relationship (not necessarily a client, customer, or associate; but at minimum someone that you have a common interest with other than spiders).

Also, at your statistic page if you look at the top you will see how many times your profile has been viewed. While there, if you click on your subscribers you can visit them directly without other distractions. Actually, I'm going to do that now. I just realized I miss those smiling faces...

May You Shine in 2009!

Suzi--I came to your blog from your comment on Chris' noting you don't get many features or comments when posting localism. I post mostly localism too. Potential clients read localism posts so keep doing what you are doing. If you want more comments, find a few blogs you like reading...Subscribe to their blogs and leave comments on every post for several days. They will visit your blog and comment on yours. Reciprocity is the best way to build a network in the rain! Best to you in 2009!

Teri, thanks for stopping by. By encouraging me to work Localism, you are also encouraging many others to do the same.  I believe in reciprocity and have practiced it to the extreme. However, there were long periods in 2008 when I felt it was necessary to "ground myself", and hence took time out of the Rain.

Incidentally--I learned that when I do that, I lose pals and a great deal of momentum. So one of my AR goals for this year is to B a l a n c e myself.

Thank you for your caring response to my whine.

Localism posts may not gain as many comments as some of the member's only posts, but the localism posts certainly stand a better chance of gaining a client. Best of luck in the New Year.

I like writing posts for Localism.  When I wrote about the local courthouse, I spoke with the Chancery Clerk to let him know what I was doing and to make sure court was not in session so I could take pictures.  I "plan" on writing more posts this year which will make me have to interview local business owners and government officials.  The way I see it, this type of research and writing helps me both on the net and by meeting peope fact-to-face.

Suzi, I believe the Localism posts are the most valuable, although you may not be getting comments, surely you are getting those coveted page views and page clicks.

I've noticed that on members-only posts, I may have 150-200 page views and 10-20 comments, but on Localism or public posts, the page views go up dramatically!

Keep it up! It must be working. ~Pat, your Mississippi (Jackson) buddy

Pam, You are so write:-). I must have been crazy to doubt the value of Localism and Public posting.

Pat, I will keep at it. Thanks for the encouragement.

See you both at your Local posts:-)

Yes, Localism posts are important.  I do need to start looking at the stats - something I never do.

James, Hello. Stats are fun. Whether or not you allow them to guide you in anyway--it helps you to profile your "public". Compare your posts for example. What was different about the posts that had a lot of views but few clicks compared to the posts that had a significantly higher ratio of clicks?

I certainly am not an SEO expert; but I can say I have proof that any time you include Photo or Photo-Blog in your title you will get more clicks. I would not have realized that had I not looked at stats.

I like that concept of 212 degrees... and if you add just a teensy bit more energy to it.... I am wondering if you are referencing that great video based what happens with the extra degree?

Hello, Jim. It was a law long before the movie was made. Yes, I am referring to the extra degree. I experienced the exhausting, productive magic of the extra degree this summer. I didn't know how to express it until I saw the movie. That teensy bit more energy for me was one more phone call, one more visit--when I was tired and ready to call it a day.

Have a great -- 2009. You know what it takes:-)
