Attention to detail can make or break you in this business.

We all have finicky clients looking for a needle in a haystack from time to time. What can you do to keep them happy? You can pay attention to the details. Maybe I am over analyzing things, but I don't think so. I pay attention to everything: clients body language, facial expressions, comments about houses we have seen and what they want in the perfect home. You have to remember the little things and pay attention to clues your clients give you. You tell me if you think I go too far.

Recently while showing property I noticed my client had a drink from Sonic. So I commented about how I enjoy their cherry limeades. She lit up like Christmas and said how much she loves how cold the drinks are because of the crushed ice. I agreed there is nothing as refreshing on a hot Texas day. I made a mental note and went on showing them homes.

The next day we looked at a couple of homes and needed a break. They wanted to stop to pick up a water and a coke at the "Stop and Rob". So I suggested there is a Sonic two blocks from here. The client said oh lets do that instead! She had no idea there was a Sonic so close to her "soon to be" new neighborhood. We got the drinks and looked at the last two houses.

When we wrote the offer I went through line by line explaining the contract to them. She said I know you are paying attention to the details because that is what you do. You listened to us and found us the perfect house, I have faith in you that all the details are written up correctly because that is what you do. If my client was astute enough to have noticed that I noticed her preference in soda vendors, then of course I will pay attention to all the little details of her purchase. Take the time to pay attention to the little details and your clients will love you for it!

That sonic line was a good one. I have used lines like this in the past and it pays to make mental notes while showing homes

Betina - I couldn't agree more.  I have had similar experiences over the years.  It's all about connecting with people in a personal way.  Your attention to detail will continue to pay off for you, I'm sure.

Great job!  I wish we had Sonics in our area!  Sound yummy....it is the little things that put people over and above normal service.  And they are the most appreciated as well...great post!

Cherry Limeade comes in DIET too... I love it.. actually its the only reason I ever go into a SONIC.  Attention to detail means you are listening to them... not talking at them.  Good job Betina!

I love Sonic cherry limeades too!  I do try to remember little details about clients as it makes such a difference.  You can see in their faces (even if they don't directly comment on what you've said) that they  have caught your attention to a detail that makes them feel important.  Great job.

You are doing more than paying attention to the details....you are paying attention to them.  Many agents...people for that matter....don't do that.  It makes people feel special and liked and listened to.  Don't we all just want to be listened to?

Very good advice...it is always the attention to "the little things" that set us apart, and create that bond between our clients and ourselves.    Appreciated your story, here.

Very true Betina! ... when you connected like you did about Sonic because you paid attention to everything about your client, you immediately had them as more of a friend than just a Realtor !

Nice reminder

Good work Betina...I do find my clients suprised when I email them or drop an article in the mail on a topic or hobby they've mentioned to me in passing.  It does make an impression!

Betina, It is so important to people that you remember the little things.  It shows not only that you're listening but that you care! I think you did a great job.

I love using little things to establish rapport with my Clients. The better rapport I establish, the higher the likelihood that they will refer me and that if they need any additional help with anything, they'll call me.

Attention to details and a very good memory, yes I have that but not when it comes to names.

Dear James,

We all need to pick up on client cues. I am great visually, but also need to work on remembering names.

Dear Russel,

I agree. Once you connect and are friends, they are far more likely to remember you when they have a friend looking to buy or sell.
