Is It Better to Buy a New or an Older Home? New homes tend to cost more than older homes, but the sticker price doesn't tell the whole story. For instance, the price of a new home usually doesn't include window coverings or landscaping, and the flashy upgrades that caught your attention in the model home cost extra. However, new homes are built to current building code requirements, they're energy efficient, and they're free of the deferred maintenance that can result after years of use and neglect. A well-built new home should be relatively maintenance-free for the first ten (8 comments)
Selling Your Home: Where to Begin? - 04/24/10 05:45 AM
Selling Your Home: Where to Begin? First Impressions Remember what first attracted you to your house when you bought it? What excited you about its most appealing features? Now that you're selling your home, you'll need to look at it as if you were buying it all over again. A spruced up house makes a great first impression on potential buyers. An attractive property grabs their attention and makes them excited about finding a house that looks and feels well-cared for. Because buyers know they'll encounter fewer problems if they buy it, your house becomes more appealing and stands out (4 comments)
Moving With Pets Making your pets comfortable in your new home. You may not know this, but dogs and cats can encounter many of the same problems people have, in moving into a new home. They must become used to a new house, neighborhood, unfamiliar sounds and strange postal carriers. They may need to get used to different water, that does not agree with them, and even colder or warmer climates. But with a little help from a friend, your pet will soon settle down and enjoy their new surroundings!Although it may seem cruel, it is advisable to keep your pets confined for (4 comments)
Putting the spotlight on CFL bulbs - 04/23/10 09:14 AM
Putting the spotlight on CFL bulbs It is generally known that compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are more energy efficient and are therefore better for the environment and can lower electricity costs. But before you say “Let there be energy-efficient light” in your home, you may have some further questions.
Here are answers to some common questions about CFLs. Are CFLs safe?According to a recent report from Natural Resources Canada, CFLs do not pose a health hazard to the general population. That said, ensure you are careful when disposing of a broken CFL bulb. Who is using CFLs?Many Canadians are using (3 comments)

MAC Users Rejoice! MLS is accessible on your Mac - 04/22/10 05:45 PM
MAC Users Rejoice! MLS is accessible on your Mac I'll keep this short and sweet. Get right to the point. Won't go on and on about how many things I tried until I finally gave in and purchased the Sony VAIO I'm typing this on. Searched the web for weeks on end. Yadda, yadda, yadda... Anyway, I was speaking with my website developer yesterday. Mentioned how I'm lost without my Mac, but, because of MLS...what can ya do? So he say, quite nonchalantly, "did you try Opera? I hear that works." Yes, sure I did. I must have. I tried EVERYTHING. (14 comments)
Is there an alternative to selling your home on MLS? Absolutely! Several in fact. - 04/22/10 05:29 PM
Is there an alternative to selling your home on MLS? Absolutely! Several in fact.I spoke with a homeowner recently who was interested in a lower commission structure, but still wanted top dollar for his home. Does this sound familiar?Initially, my instincts told me this was wrong. Not impossible, but fairly difficult at best. This because the commission rate he suggested meant an MLS listing was out, and an "exclusive" listing was in... told him I'd have to think about how I could do this for him effectively. So I began thinking about how I would go about selling a home without the (8 comments)
A great post about Twitter. And in keeping with the Twitter experience, I just had to retweet reblog this.

Is anybody happier because you passed their way? - 04/20/10 12:53 PM
I'm not sure what the title of this poem is, and I don't know the author. I do know a poem isn't something I thought I'd be posting to a real estate blog, and I suppose this isn't really the place. Then again, what walk of life wouldn't this apply to? This was shared with me by a friend several years ago. Reading it now and then keeps me grounded in a way. So, if you've seen it before or not, please enjoy, and if you know who the author is please let me know. Thanks ========================================================= Is anybody happierbecause you passed (3 comments)

Selling Your Home: 5 Ways to Maximize The Return on your investment You've outgrown your home and are ready to move. The big question is where to spend your money so you get the maximum profit from your home with the minimum investment. 1. De-clutter. Almost every home shows better with less furniture. Simply removing a couple of items will make the rooms look bigger and be more enticing to buyers. 2. Clean. A clean house is a welcoming house. Make certain everything sparkles from mirrors to floors. Don't forget to clean out closets and kitchen cabinets. 3. Update the Kitchen. (0 comments)

ActiveRain VS Linked IN: AR is great for connecting (and numerous other advantages), but Linked IN has its merits also... I feel ActiveRain is excellent to connect with Realtors and those related to the profession of real estate. In fact, there probably is no better place. Then, of course, there's the blogging, the educational aspect, etc..., etc..., etc... However, Linked IN, as I seem to be discovering over and over lately, is also an excellent place to connect. With realtors as well, of course, but more importantly with other business oriented professionals. I find having input from people on the outside (5 comments)
