charlote homes for sale: College Sports in Charlotte NC - 12/27/08 08:30 AM
Now that the Meineke Car Care Bowl has finished, I think it's time to talk about the great events that Charlotte NC puts on that are just like the Meineke Car Care Bowl.  The venues that Charlotte has are big and one the level of many other cities.  That's why Charlotte is frequently the venue for the first few rounds of NCAA Playoff basketball at the beginning of March.
It was once home to the final four - sometime in the 90s. I forgot actually what year.  But, the point is that it can play host to some of the biggest … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: West Virginia beats Carolina in Charlotte - 12/27/08 08:21 AM
Charlotte NC just witnessed a great game in the downtown stadium.  Carolina and West Virginia traded touchdowns for most of the first half. But finally West Virginia came up big in the end.
Boy, what a game.
The Meineke Car Care Bowl is one of the newer members of the college bowl circut. I think it was created a few years ago when they built Panthers stadium.  I cant think of another stadium big enough to hold the number of people needed for a bowl game.  It was started in 2002 and features the Fifth or Sixth seed from the ACC … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Charlotte NC is a UsAirways Hub - 12/27/08 08:03 AM

Think about this, 33 million people, travel into and out of Charlotte NC's airport, called Charlotte Douglas International.  Most of those people traveled domestically, even though Charlotte Douglas has international flights.
Charlotte NC is a connected city. Transportation is easy and efficient. In fact, it's easy to get to the airport now more than ever thanks to the outer loop. I-485 makes getting to the airport a snap from places that used to be difficult. The airport is on the west side of the city, making it difficult to get to from the east side and places like Matthews and … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Charlotte NC's Airport - 12/27/08 07:35 AM
The Charlotte Douglas international airport has become an important part of Charlotte's economy and its appeal as a great place to live and work.
According to its website, it is sixteenth nationwide in terms of the number of passengers it handles on a yearly basis. It handles 2 million international passengers a year, 19 million regular air carrier passengers and 11 million regional passengers.  It also handles ove a hundred thousand tons of air freight a year.
That's a lot of cargo and people.
Here is a list of the non stop international service offered by Charlotte's international carriers.

charlote homes for sale: Panthers have a big game on Sunday - 12/27/08 07:25 AM
Every game is the biggest game of the season in the NFL. But the Panthers are doing well and headed for the playoffs.  Let's hope they can get some home field advantage in Charlotte, NC.
The panthers were given some help when Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the San Diego Chargers last week. Actually, that was something that I was not thinking about at all. I can't believe they lost to the Chargers, actually.
Anyway, that means that Carolina has probably wrapped up the playoff spot for their division. Which means that there will probably be a game or two at … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Holiday Travel to and from Charlotte NC - 12/20/08 10:40 AM
Everyone wants to see their loved ones for the holidays, but no one really wants to fight the holiday traffic to do it. Some places, it can be downright difficult to get where you want to go.
In Charlotte, at least there are a ton of options to get you where you want to go.  There are several major roadways that point you in almost any direction.
Highway 74, takes travelers from the beach to the mountains. It is a useful highway to get people from Charlotte to eastern North Carolina.
Interstate 77 runs north and south through town and connects … (6 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Sweet tea, an important part of Southern Living - 12/20/08 10:29 AM
This is not a joke. Sweet tea is a real thing. In fact, it is a matter of pride among Charlotteans - people who are from Charlotte.
Sweet tea is the substance that forms after a person brews tea and then adds sugar.  It is great. It is usually served with ice in the South.  If you read my weather post, you'll know why.
You just don't understand until you come here about the refreshing power of sweet tea until you are drenched in sweat after a day of yard work or a vigorous walk around one of the walkable neighborhoods … (2 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Renting a boat on Lake Norman - 12/20/08 10:15 AM
Lake Norman is a great place for a vacation. Or as some call it, a staycation, which means a vacation where you don't go anywhere. I hate that word. Really, it makes me want to puke, but it's a great descriptor of the fun that awaits on Lake Norman.
One way to do it is to buy a boat and keep it at your house. You'll need a boat, a trailer and a big car to haul all of those things with.  Some people don't want do to all that. So, for other people, the best idea is to rent a … (5 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Weather in Charlotte NC - 12/20/08 10:05 AM
Charlotte's weather is super pleasant. It's one of the things that makes living in Charlotte NC Real Estate great. The winters are mild and the summers are hot. There aren't really any of the other seasons. Fall and Spring really last a week or two. It's usually either hot or cold.
The average low temperatures in the city are only in the thirties. Let me tell you, that is a big difference from the northeast.  It is not as warm as it gets in parts of California and Florida, I have to admit, but real estate in those areas is much … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Summers Walk in Charlotte NC Area - 12/20/08 09:37 AM
Summer's walk is a new neighborhood in Charlotte NC Real Estate. It is build near the rapidly expanding Cornelius and Davidson areas. Cornelius and Davidson are both built on the waters of Lake Norman, but are expanding inland as the demand for housing outside of Charlotte heats up.
Summers Walk is built on a few hundred acres of land. But 90 acres of it is home to an endangered specie. So, that means that land will never be developed. Which guarantees a natural section of the development. Nice!
The homes they are building include homes from $117,000 to $250,000. They include … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Walkable neighborhoods in Charlotte NC - 12/20/08 09:20 AM
Here are some neighborhoods that are definitely walkable in Charlotte.
Myers Park - with its huge, oversized oak trees that cover Queens Road, Myers Park is a walker's dream.  Although there arent shops on every corner, there are definitely shops and cafes within walking distance if you are so inclined. It also happens to be one of Charlotte's most exclusive and beautiful neighborhoods.
Elizabeth -  A close in neighborhood to downtown, its not very easy to stroll all the way downtown, but that's no matter there are a ton of things to do in the Elizabeth neighborhood itself.
Chantilly - On … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Tyler Hansbrough earns points record - 12/20/08 09:07 AM
Listen, I'll be honest, I don't think that this is the most germane to Charlotte NC Real Estate, but Tyler Hansbrough just beat the all time points record in the history of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Phil Ford, the basketball legend who held the previous record was on hand to congratulate Tyler. It was a big moment for a guy who has dominated ACC basketball for the past four years. This all but assures that Tyler's jersey will be hanging in the rafters when he leaves - a big honor at UNC Chapel Hill, where there are … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Panthers may be in good shape in Charlotte NC - 12/20/08 01:55 AM
After considerable thought and debate, I've decided that my last post may have been mistaken. After talking to some sports guys, I don't think that they will miss the playoffs. In fact, I think they are headed for a triumphant win in New York tomorrow. That will make us twelve and three. I also think that we have a great chance of beating the New Orleans Saints the week after that, which would make us thirteen and three.  That is awesome.
The Panthers have great chance to go into the playoffs with one of the best records in the National Football … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Panthers can't make the playoffs in Charlotte NC? - 12/18/08 03:00 PM
So I was sitting around and chatting with a friend who said that the Panthers may not make the playoffs this year, even though they are leading their division. How can that be?
Well, the panthers are 11 and three, with two games to go. They play the Giants this week in New York. The Giants are really good and the Panthers might lose.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has two really easy games coming up with teams that are really struggling. San Diego and Oakland both are having really difficult years. The Panthers on the other hand, have the Giants, who I've … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: West Charlotte High School posts super gains in Charlotte NC - 12/13/08 01:26 PM
West Charlotte High School has posted some amazing gains in Charlotte NC.  Principal John Modest - what a name right? - has not been making modest gains at all.  More than sixty percent of kids are performing on state exams.
That is a difficult feat in a public school system these days.  The principal has changed the culture in several years. Which is also not an easy feat. It is indicative of some of the great public schools in Charlotte NC.
One of the big draws of Charlotte are its excellents schools. Myers Park has been a beacon of excellence for … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Paper Skyscraper's 20 th anniversary in Charlotte NC - 12/13/08 01:17 PM
For those who read this blog regularly, I included a post a while ago about Paper Skyscraper, the store in Dilworth that I thought really summed up the neighborhood. The store is celebrating its twentieth year in businesss in Charlotte NC. I thought it was so important that I should post about it again.
The store is located on East Boulevard east of South Boulevard but west of Queens Road.  Actually it is also west of Park and Kenilworth.  The store is very close to the Greek Orthodox church.  The church is famous for their greek festival every year.  I'll have … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Communities in Suburbs Charlotte NC - 12/13/08 01:06 PM
There is a growing trend in suburban neighborhoods to make suburban communities more like little towns. People are living in the suburbs to get more house for less money, but they are also craving some of the comforts of the city.  People miss the gym right down the street.
That's why master planned communities like Ballantyne in Charlotte NC area real estate are so popular. Ballantyne is a giant neighborhood that is built around a main commercial retail community at the corner of Johnston Road and Ballantyne Commons Parkway.  It also includes the Stonecrest shopping center, i suppose.
But Ballantyne Commons … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Panthers Game tomorrow in Charlotte Nc - 12/13/08 12:55 PM
Riding on the wave of success from last week's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Carolina Panthers, are playing the Denver Broncos tomorrow in Charlotte NC.  It's going to be a great game.
There are a lot of reasons you don't want to miss this one. First, it's getting toward the end of the season an the panthers are looking to continue their shutout at their home. The panthers have split their road games this year, three to three. That is a pretty good season.
If you like football or not, the panthers add value to the Charlotte area. They … (1 comments)

charlote homes for sale: New York Times article about real estate - 12/13/08 12:43 PM
The New  York Times recently published an article that says that it may be time to think about buying a home.  I couldn't agree more.  Check out the article here.
The article says that this may be the time to buy, but we can't know exactly where the bottom of the market is.  There may be some better deals to come, the article says.  Although housing prices have fallen, this doesn't mean that that it is time to sell your house and get out of the market to start renting. Especally here in Charlotte NC.
The biggest mistake you can make … (0 comments)

charlote homes for sale: Bank of America in Charlotte NC - 12/13/08 08:31 AM
Bank of America makes its headquarters in Charlotte. It is the largest bank by assets and the second largest bank in America if you count the deposts. It is only one of the several banks with a major presence in Charlotte NC's uptown.  There are a few headquarters and a few large subheadquarters here. What is amazing is the story of how Bank of America wound up on the East Coast.
The story of any bank is the story of almost endless mergers and name changes over the years.  Bank of America, was BankAmerica and headquartered in San Francisco.  The company … (0 comments)
