spartanburg: A pleasant drive to the North Carolina Mountains - 10/09/08 01:57 PM
This week a few members of our Church got together and Car/Van pooled on a day trip to North Carolina, (starting in Spartanburg, SC) along scenic highway 11 to "Strawberry Hill", (a great tourist  spot  and known for their wonderful breakfasts) and then on toward "Chimney Rock"  area for photo shoots and of course, we all had to drop in and visit a few local gift shops. Then loaded back into the vans and toured over to what we call "Apple Valley". A highway just full of apple orchards and fruit and vegetable stands, and of course every Fall item you could think of from pumpkins to jams and relishes. We filled … (4 comments)

spartanburg: Continuing Ed...Gotta have it. - 09/17/08 04:18 PM
Finally... getting my post licensing completed. Not that I've put it off to the last minute, I still have a while to go, but it needs to be out of the way for my peace of mind. You never know what could happen at the last minute, not to mention you may not get registered for the class..... And it really feels good to brush up on your skills and refresh your memory. In my opinion, you can/should never stop learning, especially in this business. Rules and regulations are always changing and if that's not good enough reason the Market is in constant … (6 comments)

spartanburg: Made my first pot of Chili of the season... - 09/17/08 03:57 PM
The weather has turned and it's beginning to look a little like Fall here in South Carolina. The swimming pool temp was down to 72 degrees. Brrrr..... (Too cold for me!!!). Since I was working from home today I decided it was a good day to whip up a batch of homemade chili. My family really likes it and it's always good left over. To add a little secret flavor and a bit different taste I add about 1/4th cup of Merlot wine while cooking. It gives it a really great taste and not so tomatoe like. And I don't do real spicy, … (8 comments)

spartanburg: SOME DAYS YOU GET CHICKEN, SOME DAYS YOU GET FEATHERS... - 09/14/08 05:00 PM
Can you believe I have heard this phrase twice in the last three days. In two different scenarios. One Real Estate related and one personal. Seems like in my Real Estate career I have been getting a lot of feathers lately. You sit onsite part time and not one visitor stops by and that does tend get kind of discouraging. And on the other hand you finally get a "Buyer Client" and get to the fianl search and they are still dragging their feet. Maybe theirs something in the air... or maybe they have been watching too much TV!!! All I can say is: … (3 comments)

spartanburg: It's a sinking feeling when your on "E." - 09/14/08 04:01 PM
I mean when your getting off work at 5:30 PM Friday evening and you need to fill your gas tank up for the weekend's work, (sure we've heard the news and weather about hurricane Ike coming ashore) and you drive to your local gas station and it's pump handles are covered. (but the first clue was there was only one car driving away, like myself, when normally it is packed!!) Then I look across the street to the small station where hardly anyone frequents and there are cars lined out in the street in both directions! "Nope, I'm not gonna do that!!!!" … (5 comments)

spartanburg: Market Up....Along with gasoline - 09/11/08 04:59 PM
Seems we just can't win. right about the time when gasoline prices were declining and the Real Estate market is picking up....along comes "IKE". The last week or so seemed to be pretty enlightening as the loan market is in a jumbo and the interest rates were dropping and people are "sticking their heads out of their shell" to possibly take a breather and think about making their next move and BOOM!!!! there's an active Hurricane in the Gulf and oil prices are skyrocketing (gas up 20 cents today)  and of course it puts everything in a frenzey and lots of things get put on hold and even in panic … (6 comments)

spartanburg: What we don't do to keep our home and yard looking good!!! - 09/10/08 02:05 PM
If you could have seen me today you probably would have laughed. I looked like something from the movie Ghost Busters. You see, we have these beautiful Leyland Cypress trees lining both sides of our 2 acre property. Well, guess what, they have been invaded by an insect called a "bagworm". And to top it off they are eating and destroying our trees. We decided to try and take control of these varmits ourselves since the cost of a prefessional company was way more than our budget would allow at this time. So we donned our garb, (me in long pants, my … (6 comments)

spartanburg: Previewing foreclosures can be pretty nasty... - 09/09/08 04:57 PM
At least some of them can be that way. In fact you can say some may be almost nauseateing!!! I visited one yesterday where the smell wasn't so bad as some but it looked like someone had taken revenge or just plain ole trashed the place. Now we're talking in a fairly decent neighborhood. Should have been warned on this when I saw a couple windows boarded up. After opening the door, I  looked like someone was practicing their "kickboxing" on the walls. And then had some kind of spaghetti sauce fight in a couple of the rooms. YUK!!!! It just makes you … (8 comments)

spartanburg: Why do they wait till the last minute... - 09/08/08 02:33 PM
I'm speaking of a certain couple in particular. These folks originally came to me in the middle of June 08. They explained their lease would be up the 1st of August. So we had about six weeks for a search. Good enough....but just as I get them to the Mortgage office for approval they informed me they had spoke to another Lender and had some type of affiliation with a Realtor agent tied with the Lender. Well, not being pushy and listening to the wife, she wanted to "give this person a chance" all the while the husband had faith in me and wanted … (14 comments)

spartanburg: It's pretty lonesome sitting "Onsite" these days... - 09/05/08 03:28 PM
Wondering if anyone is going to visit...or preview...or just come  by to check out the decor!!! (Haven't even had much of that lately). Just for someone to pop their head in the door and say "HI, We're just looking" would be a welcome surprise. I remember the days when Real Estate was hopping and you wrenched when the next person came walking through that door. You couldn't hardly catch your breath or regain your composure. Those were the good old days, Wow!!! Times have changed!!!.... and this too shall change...I hope!!!

spartanburg: It's like going back in time.... - 09/04/08 01:05 AM
I'm talking about visiting Laurens, SC. Kinda reminds me of Mayberry RFD. No offense Andy and Oppie, but this small town is so neat. It has the Courthouse Square with surroundg shops. (Just like on TV!!!) There's the town Barber with real barber chairs and the barber pole out front. Floyd would be envious!! The single Barber and owner must know everyone... at least every guy in town!!  I love to take my brother there and just listen to all these men, while sitting and waiting for their turn in the chair and chatting and catching up on all the guys stuff, just like some of us … (4 comments)

spartanburg: It's time to purchase a new cell phone... - 09/01/08 12:50 PM
Yep....Been putting it off long enough. Guess it's time to "get with the program" and get a "Smart phone". Is a Blackberry the best way to go for Realtors? Or is an I-phone proven any better?? I see my fellow agents with both and they seem to be content with their purchase. Or are they???  Are there any features that I must have that I'm not aware of? Besides unlimited minutes....(which I seem to be using a lot of lately.) I always have my digital camera with me and I'm not one to constantly take pictures with my phone, but I guess it's always a nice feature … (8 comments)

spartanburg: It's almost like I having an "Assistant": - 09/01/08 12:11 PM
And the BEST part is.... I don't have to pay her Assistant wages. I have been very fortunate to have such a dedicated client who has had more time than I have to search the internet (along with what I'm sending them) for their new home since moving here to South Carolina. She claims she just loves searching the internet so she says she doesn't mind at all. She has forwarded every site and everything they want to preview and finding sites that I don't frequent or have never come across. I'm glad she has nothing to do except this and it HAS been very helpful. Course … (1 comments)

spartanburg: Do we "Blog" or do we watch the Weather Channel??? - 08/30/08 04:59 PM
As we keep a constant eye on all the active Hurricane and Tropical storm activity this weekend, I'm sure it's going to spoil a lot of weekend plans. Having a weekend picnic sure beats evacuating your hometown. My heart goes out to these poor people. Taking time out to write blogs at your computer may not be #1 priority on a many peoples mind the next couple days. Reminds me of three years ago when we had such an active August with four Hurricanes back to back. I remember it quite well sitting through a couple of these myself in Central Florida. Best of luck to you all.

spartanburg: Keeping in touch with past "Clients" - 08/29/08 03:44 PM
Well, it's finally paying off. Since relocating and starting over with a data base of new hometown clients, The phone is ringing and the emails are coming. I'm getting referral business from them. This is good. Of course, as Realtors we all know that emails are a constant touch and can be automated, but I personally try and keep in touch with former Buyers and even a couple Sellers. I always try to make a quick visit now and then if I'm going to be in the neighborhood, or drop off something special. Checking on their children or pets is always a good reason to connect.  Had 2 phone … (7 comments)

spartanburg: Looks like many will be watching the "WEATHER CHANNEL" this Holiday weekend - 08/29/08 03:09 PM
Well , here we go again!!! Hurricane season is upon us. Looks like Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna will be the hot topic this weekend and first of next week.
After "been there, done that" I know exactly how some folks are feeling..... watching the weather channel constantly. Stocking up on food items and medicines and preparing your home for the worst.  Although I didn't suffer the consequences of Hurrican Katrina, I did manage to survive Hurricane Charlie. And mind you I have nothing to whine about because I was in Central Florida. But heh, 90 MPH winds are nothing to shake a stick at. … (7 comments)

spartanburg: People are finding SOUTH CAROLINA a beautiful place to live.... - 08/28/08 08:57 AM
And to move to. It seems this is really what is keeping our economy in South Carolina and our Real Estate Market prosperous especially here in the upstate. As a matter of fact, I have 3 current Buyer clients that are all from out of state. I'm talking New York, Florida, and not too distant North Carolina. It appears that the weather, the scenery, (such as the mountains, lakes and the ocean not too far) and the lower than national average home prices are drawing people from all over. I think this is wonderful and there's still plenty of room.... and homes for many more. It … (1 comments)

spartanburg: Do you sometimes feel like a "Tourguide" rather than a "Real Estate Agent?" - 08/27/08 04:53 PM
Makes one wonder.... Guess it's just one of the  many hats one wears when being a successful agent. (And it's always good for future referral business!!!) You see I really enjoy helping new home buyers with making them feel comfortable and showing them a few highlights of your city, or where the closest shopping or hospital may be. Moving to a new city can be very intimidating, especially if you have children. Got to have groceries and know where the schools are!!!
Previously being from the Orlando Florida market it just came without saying that while trying to find that perfect new home, we had … (2 comments)

spartanburg: From "Mobile Homes" to "Mansions" - 08/26/08 04:43 PM
Guess in todays marketplace it pays to be diverse. You might say it's slim pickins. although there does seem to be more Listings than Buyers lately. I don't feel that I'm "MISS GOODY TWO SHOES" not to take to take any type of listing that comes my way.  After all, It's somebodies home,  whether it be 14 foot wide or 150 foot wide. I realize that we as agents are here to service each individual with their real estate needs. That makes my heart feel good.

spartanburg: Just when your getting ready to SELL... the bugs attack your trees: - 08/25/08 01:34 PM
And at a high rate of speed I might mention. Yes, would you believe it.....Just put our house on the market last week. We have beautiful Leland Cypress trees (about 20-25 ft. tall) lining both sides of our property. All 2 1/2 acres of it. They provide a great privacy barrier, so of course we wouldn't want to loose them to a few (thousands) of bagworms. So we are educating ourselves real quick on how to eradicate these pesky insects that are "nibbling" away at these poor innocent  trees. We are going to put it in the hands of a professional, since neither my husband or I have time … (2 comments)
