4431 Soper Ave is located on the border of the Old Glendale Park and the edge of Oak Hill.  Back in the early decades of the 20th Century, when the Lealand Lane area was wooded countryside and automobiles were scarce, one of the most popular excursions in town was a streetcar ride and vi st to Glendale Park and Zoo.  There on 64 beautiful wooded acres, seven miles south of downtown, were picnic grounds, band concerts, roller coaster rides, dance hall, skating rink and a zoo with alligators, buffalo, monkeys, sea lions, bears and magnificent birds of plumage.  For only a nickel one could ride from any point in the city to Glendale Park, located on land bordering what is now Lealand Lane between Caldwell and Glendale lanes and bound on the west by Brown's Creek.  Courtsey of the Tennessean.
