blogging: My Friend Needs a new Website! - 04/15/09 03:02 PM
Ken was the first person to contact me from Active Rain looking for advice. And I generally enjoy helping people out with their websites. It looks like his is having more trouble than before. In fact its totally gone...yikes!
Ken, the first thing I would suggest is move your site FAR away from Point 2 Agent. They are WAAAAAY overpriced. I mean $10/month to host a website? That's just plain highway robbery. I am unsure what they actually do for $10/month or what technologies they support, but that seems totally outrageous to me. If you already own your domain, move it to another host … (8 comments)

blogging: Blogging, Libel, and FREE Speech - 02/09/09 12:21 PM
I like to think of myself as a truly red-blooded American and hold close to my heart all of the freedoms we get to enjoy in our FREE country. My favorite freedom would have to be free speech. In other countries people can be put to death for things they say. This is really hard to imagine.
I'd like to think that if I had a bad opinion of someone or their business, I should be able to share MY OPINION and let those listening form their own opinions.
Today I saw a poll on a local news website that asks "Should bloggers be … (7 comments)

blogging: Wordpress and Real Estate - 02/06/09 05:27 PM
Given its ease of use and free availability, I am surprised more Crystal Coast area agents do not have Wordpress blogs. Don't get me wrong, I love my AR with its robust SEO and promotional features and awesome link juice, but Wordpress remains my favorite.
I'm not talking about the joeschmoe.wordpress.org or whatever those blogs are type of wordpress implemention. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but I'm referring to hosting your own. I've done several of them on godaddy.com's Linux servers. These are usually so straightforward I could probably train my dog to install them.
I've also done them on Windows boxes with … (5 comments)

blogging: Keep it Fresh - 01/15/09 01:59 PM
Why do I love blogs? Why do search engines love blogs? Most importantly why do site visitors love blogs?
Well mainly because there is usually a good amount of fresh content on a blog. I love visiting sites and blogs with fresh content. It's what keeps me coming back. Think about AR. Have you ever meant to login and do something real quick only to find yourself not accomplishing the task you came here for an hour later? I bet so, that's because there are so many NEW and thought provoking blog entries. Fresh content rules.
Well not just fresh content, … (6 comments)

blogging: Vacation Rental Websites | Crystal Coast - 12/17/08 12:35 PM
There is a multitude of Vacation Rental websites targeted towards the Crystal Coast. So I figured, why not join in? I've decided to let the kind folks here at AR have a little sneak peek into my thought process. Firstly there are literally thousands of vacation homes here on the coast. Each of these are owned by regular ordinary people. They have to get their rental income or else that vacation property becomes a drain on their everyday finances. You know what else? They all hate their rental management companies. Even if they will not admit it, they hate giving ANY … (0 comments)

blogging: Wordpress 2.7 - 12/14/08 01:36 PM
WOW! This is my first post here on the Active Rain Network, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. What moew could you ask for? A free blogging platform that already gets targeted traffic Merry Christmas to me :) oh and everyone else out there.
Anyway, I maintain several other blogs related to the Crystal Coast, Real estate, rentals, and other topics. Mostly I've been a worpress guy, mainly because it seems to do real well with G and other search engines. My first one actually runs on a Windows Server. Which was a whole project getting set up in the … (13 comments)
