silver spring md: McMansions in East Silver Spring - Silver Spring Real Estate - 12/11/07 06:03 AM
This post was inspired by a another local blogger www.ThayerAvenue.com  who posted about a ginormous McMansion going up in East Silver Spring on Thayer Avenue.                                              Most of East Silver Spring still has "normal sized" older houses.  The few McMansions or new infill construction that we do have REALLY stand out.  One example on Easley street is the "McMansion with no windows"  It started out as a small bungalow home built in 1928 between 2 other similar houses.  The home had a larger and deeper than average lot size of 12,180 sq ft.  It was torn down sometime ago and remained a big watery mud … (3 comments)

silver spring md: Silver Spring Md The Oldest House in Silver Spring? - 04/03/07 06:32 AM

This old farmhouse sits at the highest point on a hill overlooking Colesville Road from the top of Greyrock Road and Harvey Roads in The Woodside Park Neighborhood of Silver Spring.  Built in 1833, it is by far the oldest house I have ever encountered in Silver Spring.

Surrounded now by homes built in the 1940's on Harvey Road and Greyrock Road, it looks to me like before  these homes were built around it, it must have looked out on Colesville Road and down at Mrs K'sTollhouse with lots of acreage around and probably had a Colesville Road address. The address now is Greyrock Road, Silver Spring, … (7 comments)

Romance Novelist Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb grew up in this adorable bungalow off of Sligo Avenue near the heart of Downtown Silver Spring.  This area used to be known as "Takoma Park" and is now known as North Takoma Park with a Silver Spring Address.
Nora Roberts' real name is Eleanor M Robertson and her 85+ year old mother still owns this house.  She grew up the youngest and "an only girl", with a slew of brothers, who still live in the area.

Nora went to Parochial School, probably Saint Michaels Elementary, and then for High School she attended The Academy of the Holy Names  When she transferred to public school, the … (0 comments)

The Montgomery County Revenue Authority has proposed changes to the Sligo Creek Golf

silver spring md: Silver Spring, MD We Need a Dog Park or Two - Inside the Beltway - 02/06/07 12:56 AM

With all the new developement in Downtown Silver Spring, more development expected, and the fact that we are expecting 2,000 to 3,000 more residents in the next 2 years there is a concern that our green spaces and parks will dwindle.
As a dog owner I went looking for a dog park near my home in downtown Silver Spring. There are only 2 in Montgomery County:  Wheaton & Germantown. I went to the closest in Wheaton. I was suprised to find 35-40 dogs and their owners in a 1/2 acre fenced lot with gravel and a few trees and picnic … (3 comments)
