do the right thing: There is no right or wrong, just shades of green - 04/17/09 02:54 PM

I've been asked a lot lately: What am I doing for Earth Day? What are my goals for Green Drinks Pueblo Style? What am I doing to improve the condition of the planet?

My answer is almost always the same, I'm doing my part. If I inspire others to do their part then I must be doing something right. If one more person doesn't throw a soda can out the window because of something I've said or done then I've done some good. I don't want a trophy, accolades or acknowledgments. But I also don't want criticism if I … (8 comments)

do the right thing: Playing by the rules - 01/11/08 06:48 AM
The Division of Real Estate Enforcement Unit, now those are attention getting words! Today I did something I hope I never, ever have to do again. Recently, a friend of mine told me a story: if you don't tell people there is a snake in the grass you are no better than the snake. But I'm still not happy about having to write a letter of complaint about another agent.
On December 27, 2007 one of my sellers received a letter and contract to buy from an agent here in Pueblo. This listing has a sign on it and has been on … (11 comments)

do the right thing: Just one of those days..... - 01/06/08 06:02 AM
We've all had 'em. One of those days where nothing goes really wrong but not exactly right either.
This morning I got up early to get ready to meet some buyers. I had all the houses arranged, showing times, maps, MLS sheets. When I checked my messages the buyer had left a message cancelling for today - oh well.
My new white top isn't a white as it was a few minutes ago. But what are you going to do?
My glasses broke this morning. Ever try to fix them when you can't see?
And to all of you who may … (18 comments)

do the right thing: What would you advise? - 11/07/07 03:53 AM
What would you advise?

A very nice woman that works in my building stopped and asked me for some advice today. Because this isn't my area I told her I would ask the A.R. community.
She and her husband once owned a vacant lot in the Pocinos and took the option to trade it in on a time share in the same development. Now after years of keeping up the maintenance on this time share and not using it she would like to either move the time share option to a Texas development or trade the time share for land in … (5 comments)

do the right thing: Thank you janeAnne - 10/27/07 10:12 AM

Back when Active Rain was just getting going janeAnne Narrin and I were about the only two blogging posts green. In fact a few members criticized us for our individual points of view and reflections on the environment and how it may or may not impact the real estate industry. Today as I read the various post in the ECO All Stars group I see people joining in and really providing education and service to their clients, themselves and to other readers. The trend in not only real estate but just about everything that touches our lives is going Eco friendly. … (11 comments)

do the right thing: Why do Realtors play games? - 10/26/07 11:58 AM

Why do Realtors play games?
For about a month I've been working with a buyer who has been in no rush. He just moved to the area from out of state. His new job requires him to be in the car all day long. What a great potential buyer! I give him a list of houses available that may fit his criteria and he swings by and looks at them before calling me to see the insides. The area he has been looking at has had a number of houses come up for sale. They all have one unique feature - … (16 comments)

do the right thing: The Green Movement from a different perspective - 10/21/07 06:37 AM
The Green Movement from a different perspective

In my humble opinion it is hard to say what is or isn't wrong about our environment. Various scientists, politicians and the like can't agree so what should the average Joe or Jane think? Is mankind messing things up or are we in some sort of earth cycle? I have a slightly different perspective on the green movement.
I'm not offering an answer or advise. When I use the tag line "Do the Right Thing" I'm really asking you to examine what you are doing in your life to make life better for yourself and others. "Follow … (14 comments)

do the right thing: Tammie Stratman from Countrywide - 10/16/07 11:27 AM
Tammie Stratman from Countrywide Home Loans (719) 296-5181 is my new Home Buyers Scouting Report partner.
Together Tammie and I are helping our clients search the MLS services with this free no obligation service. Both buyers and sellers can search the MLS for homes to purchase or compare their home with others when getting ready to sell theirs. They can watch specific houses for price changes, new on the market and solds. One of the great features on HBM is the mapping service. No more popping in and out of screens to search another site.
Thank you Tammie for allowing me to be your partner, allowing my … (8 comments)

do the right thing: Schneider Ranch WestCliff CO - 10/13/07 03:17 PM
Schneider Ranch Westcliff Co
Today I made a quick trip over to Westcliff in Custer County. My brokers husband Fred had to go get a load of hay. I hitched a ride and took the opportunity to distribute tri folds and make sure flier boxes were full.
Schneider Ranch has been on the valley floor since 1874, brothers Phillip and Paul run the place today. Because 2007 had an abundance of both rain and sunshine the hay is good quality and plentiful. This year the brothers have cut and bailed 400,500 hay bails, up from last years totals.

do the right thing: Sustainability, the other Green Movement - 10/13/07 12:33 PM
In my post Following the green comsumer trial I suggested to the reader that they not buy everything they see that is labeled green. Going green is great but watch where the money goes.
Use it up, wear it out, do with or do without is a phase we don't hear much anymore. But during the great depression that was the way to live life. Ask the folks you know that were around during the depression about this phrase. Today we have compressed and revamped this saying into the word sustainable. A part of the green movement that often gets left behind is … (8 comments)

do the right thing: Due Diligence and the other Realtor - 10/13/07 07:53 AM
Due Diligence and the other Realtor

Today I had an online conversation via e-mail with a local Realtor. But the end of business he said he hoped to meet me in person one day. The truth is he and I have met in person several times.
Last August I sold a house to a nice couple moving to Pueblo from out of state. The listing agent was afraid there might be problems with the deal. Ultimately the seller and the listing agent weren't getting along. All is well and ended well. But it wasn't until we were done did either of … (8 comments)

Lark Landing Bed & Breakfast 217 County Rd 119 Florence, CO 81226    (719) 784-3813

More and more I'm getting asked by out of town buyers for recommendations for Bed and Breakfast.
Lark Landing is a charming get away in a park like setting right on the Arkansas River. The view from your room is nothing less than breath taking. Watch the river roll by and wait for deer and birds of prey to entertain you.

do the right thing: Here's the Big Secret about Pueblo - 10/08/07 05:43 AM
The big secret about Pueblo is that there are no secrets! I've said it before and I'll say it again. Everybody knows everybody else, everyone is related to everyone else and they all deny it! For a county of approx 125,000 Pueblo is a small town. A large number of the natives have never left the county except for special circumstance. Pueblo is the only town I've ever been in where it is more unusual to not see somebody you know at the store, restaurant or dentist than it is see a familiar face.
But in my opinion this is what … (12 comments)

do the right thing: Advice on Roofs, Pam Simmons Allied Building Products - 10/04/07 07:49 AM
Pam Simmons from Allied Building Products (719 560-0401) Pueblo Colorado offers advice to Buyers and Sellers about roofs.

Home owners need to look for are curling, discolored or missing shingles; damaged, discolored or rotting wood on the fascia or under eaves. It is always a good idea to ask for an inspection or certification of the roof.
Homeowners should not be on their roofs. If they don't know what they are doing they can cause more damage to their roof or cause injury to themselves. In addition to the above problems. Some possible signs of  hail damage that might be noticeable from the … (13 comments)

do the right thing: There's one in every crowd...Just for fun. - 10/02/07 02:46 PM
One of the things that makes blogging fun and productive is when comments come from the "outside world" I occasionally get comments telling me how "real" I am. I'm not represented by a template and nobody else is writing for me.
And to prove how "real" I am I thought I'd share this picture circa 1972 ish. Can you guess which one I am? Better yet pick out of sister and future brother in law.
Oh, and if we all have a double I think I met mine a couple years ago. Dana (say Dan - a) and I didn't really … (16 comments)

do the right thing: It's your attitude! - 09/23/07 04:40 AM
It's your attitude!
Last night a handful of people got together at the local tavern to celebrate two birthdays. In attendance were a mini-mansion builder, a very visible lender, two roofers, a spec home builder, 2 building supply people and a couple of Realtors. The waitress came to take our order. She commented to the lender how much her kids got a kick out of seeing the lenders very unusual car all over town. As the evening progressed the conversation turned to the obvious.
Since I've know the mini mansion builder he has been the voice of doom and gloom, but is … (8 comments)
