YORK COUNTY GROWS York County was the fastest growing area in South Carolina. Our proximity to Charlotte NC (10 minutes south) has contributed to a population growth of over 5% based on the 2007 census. Charlotte, of course, is a dynamic and growing metro area. NC residents seeking a little less pace, lower taxes, and great schools are moving south of the state line to take advantage of the lower state and property taxes. Spring has finally sprung, and the Come See Me banners are up all over Rock Hill. The annual festival began some 40ish years ago when our then major, John Hardin and his friend Ick Albright thought it would be 'fine' to show off the Glencarin Garden in Rock Hill. Well, as years have gone by, the festival has grown. It now lasts two weeks and some of my favorite events are: Beach Bash - you local folks know that beach in this case means Shag, and Shag means great music and dancing.
