Cake Anyone?  Carroll County, MarylandSeveral years ago I took a cake decorating class through our local parks & recreation program so that I could make cakes I could be proud of for family & friends. I was inspired by my mom, being the terrific mom she was. When I was little she would make the greatest cakes for my brother & I by cutting sheet cake and piecing it back together to form dogs, rockets and other cool children's birthday cakes. Well, I tried moms way, even used the cake decorating book she had saved all those years just for me. It was an epic failure. My children's cakes always looked as if they had made them themselves. Striving to be as terrific a mom as I had been raised by, I took a class to improve my skills. With a page out of the Cake Bosses book, here is my latest creation and the first one Claire helped with. Cake, rice crispy treats and butter cream icing. A Happy 50th Birthday “Over the Hill” cake for our dear friend Susan. We had a great time making it!
