My Favorite Ocean Front Communities on East Oahu: Waimanalo
Waimanalo is a small, mixed residential community located on the coast of Oahu and near the Windward side of the island. Situated between Waimanalo Bay and the Ko’olau Mountain Range, the scenery and views here can be gorgeous. The beaches here with turquoise waters and white sand are some of the best to be found anywhere in Hawaii.
More remotely located than most other parts of east oahu, Waimanalo has a rural feel and perhaps more traditional Hawaiian culture. There are more Native Hawaiians living here than in just about any other part of the island. It is also the location for one of the largest Hawaiian Homestead land bases on Oahu, providing over 1,906 acres to the people.
Waimanalo is only four miles or so from Kailua Town and Hawaii Kai is only another 20 minutes further. Kaneohe is nearby as well. Local business include farms and plant nurseries raising orchids, ornamental plants and even organic produce. Horse stables are nearby as well as a few small shopping areas and even a golf course.
