Our area is known for having fabulous weather. We tend to call it living in paradise. And while we do have sun much of the time, if you look at some of the surveys we are NOT the area in the country with the most sunny days.
 
 
If you have ever seen Steve Martin in LA Story, you’ll probably recall his role as the wacky meteorologist Harris Telemacher where the weather report, day after day, was sunny. Just a little California humor. Not always the case.
 
 
Those who live here in San Diego are in the know, but those who come to visit, or move here, aren’t always aware of this phenomenon called May Gray (and June Gloom), otherwise known as the marine layer. We’ve had a fair number of May Gray days this month and today in Carlsbad is no exception.
 
 
There are times of the year, especially in May and June, when we experience far more marine layer days, especially early in the day but sometimes for an entire day. This is more common near the coast; you can be further inland, say 5 – 10 miles, and it will tend to be sunny, but the coast ... more
