New Housing Starts October 2016
On November 17, 2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide housing building permits gained 0.3% to 1,129,000 units in October of 2016 from 1,125,000 units in September of 2016, and up 4.6% from 1,175,000 units in October of 2015. Single family building permits were up 2.7% to a rate of 762,000 units in October of 2016 from 742,000 units in September of 2016, and there were 439,000 multi family building permits issued in October of 2016.
Nationwide housing starts jumped 25.5% to 1,323,000 units in October of 2016, from 1,054,000 units in September of 2016, and rose 23.3% from 1,073,000 units in October of 2015. Single family starts were higher 10.7% to a rate of 869,000 units in October of 2016 from 785,000 in September of 2016, and there were 445,000 multi family building starts in October of 2016.
Nationwide housing completions increased 5.5% to 1,055,000 units in October of 2016 from 1,000,000 units in September of 2016, and gained 7.2% from 984,000 units in October of 2015.
