What Happens When the Deficit Super Committee Blows its Deadline? - 11/21/11 12:53 AM
What Happens When the Deficit Super Committee Blows its Deadline? As many of you know, a Congressional Super Committee was formed this past summer, as part of the agreement to increase the Federal Debt Ceiling. The bi-partisan Super Committee was supposed to come up with a plan to cut 1.2 trillion dollars of federal spending, over the next ten years. According to media reports, it is increasingly unlikely that the committee will be able to create an agreement by the Wednesday deadline. What happens next? Well, 1.2 trillion dollars of automatic spending cuts would begin to kick in during 2013. These cuts would be divided (6 comments)
U.S. Federal Debt Passes the 15 Trillion Dollar Mark -- Will the Madness Ever End - 11/16/11 07:00 PM
U.S. Federal Debt Passes the 15 Trillion Dollar Mark -- Will the Madness Ever End For those keeping score, the U.S. Federal Debt has just climbed above 15 trillion dollars. During the Obama Administration, it has increased from $10.626 trillion to $15.033 trillion (and counting). That's an increase of more than 41% just since President Obama took office. This is not intended as a slam on the Obama administration, alone. The federal debt also skyrocketed during the administration of George W. Bush, and our government has been on a spending binge for several decades.

Can You Remember Higher Interest Rates? - 11/11/11 09:41 PM
Can You Remember Higher Interest Rates? In 1989, my wife and I purchased our first home. The interest rate on that mortgage? 9.875% And you know what? We made the payments with no problem at all. How? Because we bought LESS house than we could afford. We didn't rely on the lending institution to tell us what mortgage we could qualify for. Instead, we made sure that the payments were a very reasonable and manageable portion of our total monthly income. We also came up with 20% down.
Why the trip down memory lane? Well, it has been interesting to (10 comments)
History of Veterans Day -- Thank You to All Our Veterans - 11/11/11 12:42 AM
History of Veterans Day -- Thank You to All Our Veterans World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28th, 1919. However, the hostilities had ended with a cease fire (or 'Armistice') on November 11, 1918 -- going into effect on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. In 1938, November 11th was officially recognized as a legal holiday -- a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be known (5 comments)
