lancaster county pa: Mule team in Ronks, Lancaster County, PA - 03/20/12 05:30 AM
Mule team in Ronks, Lancaster County, PA:

I was having breakfast with clients at Jennie's Diner, a truck stop in Ronks, PA along Route 30 East in Pennsylvania Dutch country.  One of my companions spotted this mule team behind me on the farm next to us, and I happened to have my camera near enough to be able to take a shot of them from inside the diner.

The interesting thing is the ease of transitioning between city life and country life in Lancaster County, PA.  We were only a couple of miles from Lancaster City!

lancaster county pa: Flash Flood at Coldwell Banker Select Professionals, Lancaster PA - 05/19/11 12:46 PM
Flash Flood at Coldwell Banker Select Professionals, Lancaster PA
I was getting ready to leave our office Monday about 5:30 in the afternoon, when it started raining really hard. Thinking I didn't want to go out in such a hard rain, I decided to keep working for a while.

When I finally went to our rear porch, water was backing up to the stairs!

Water started cascading over the roof...

When it got high enough, it started cascading like a waterfall down the concrete steps into the basement!

lancaster county pa: Good Sign for the Economy but Watch Out for Interest Rates - 08/07/09 10:00 AM
Economists expected today's jobs report to reflect a loss of 328,000 jobs.  Unexpectedly, the job loss was "only" 247,000.  Some are interpreting this as a stabilization of the economy.  The unemployment number ostensibly declined from 9.5% to 9.4% - although this figure doesn't reflect the underemployed, or those discouraged people who have stopped looking for jobs.
Although this is a good sign for the economy, it also brings with it the prospect of future inflation and its companion, higher interest rates.
First time home buyers should note also that the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit only extends through the end of November.

lancaster county pa: Nissley Vineyards Lawn Concerts, Bainbridge PA - 07/02/09 10:29 AM
Visitors to Lancaster County, PA are  aware of the popular Amish and tourist areas of the eastern part of the county.  Less well known is that there is some beautiful countryside up the Susquehanna River in the northwest corner of the county.

One point of interest that shouldn't be missed is the Nissley Vineyards and Winery Estate in Bainbridge, PA.  This is an operating vineyard and winery in a particularly scenic setting, with a stone barn and farmhouse surrounded by the rows of grapes clustered on their vines, shielding the estate from any sign of modern civilization.
The grounds are … (0 comments)

I have an idea for you to consider, which may reduce your risk in keepng your property off the market while you pursue a private sale to someone you know.  In addition, if your private sale is successful, my idea won't cost you a cent.
If your private buyer writes a good offer, applies without delay for a mortgage, and is approved for their mortgage, then you will have achieved your goals.  However, in today's unsettled economic conditions, lenders have become increasingly cautious in making mortgage commitments.  If any problem happens to crop up in the mortgage process, your property could be off the market … (7 comments)

lancaster county pa: A Trillion Here, A Trillion There... - 09/21/08 02:05 AM
Apparently the powers that be have decided, belatedly, to do something about the profligate mortgage policies of the past.  The government will spend an estimated $700 Billion to buy up bad loans purchased by institutional investors.
Senator Everett Dirksen of Illinois used to say in the 1960s, "A billion here, a billion there - pretty soon you're talking about real money!"  This new plan makes a billion dollars sound like pocket change.
Some of the loans made in the past six or seven years have been made to so-called NINJA buyers - No Income, No Job, No Assets.  No matter.  If … (16 comments)
