North Carolina Establishes Foreclosure Rules... - 03/22/10 08:00 PM
Recently state regulators ruled that once a homeowner asks for a loan modification, any foreclosure actions must be halted. Now, lenders pursue foreclosures at the same time they're working with homeowners to make their loan payments more manageable. That puts homeowners up against the clock. "We believe that the mortgage industry has failed to prevent as many foreclosures as they could have, and that there are some significant flaws in the system," said Mark Pearce, deputy commissioner of banks. "We think the new rules that we adopted ... will help homeowners have a better chance of avoiding foreclosure when they have … (0 comments)

Mortgage Rates Rising and Tax Credit Expiring! - 03/10/10 11:54 AM
BUYER BEWARE... IF YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE!
Via Len Malena - OC Realtor (ZipRealty):
Time is running out!
For prospective home buyers, any increase in interest rates erodes your purchasing power. In other words, a 1% increase in rate represents an approximate decline in purchasing power by 10%. For example, if rates increase by 1%, people who qualify for a $300,000 purchase price today may only qualify for a purchase price of $270,000 afterwards.
For those who qualify for the tax credit for first-time and repeat home buyers, another deadline also exists. The last day to obtain a contract to qualify is April … (0 comments)

Obama Relocation Assistance - Shell Game or Solution? - 03/10/10 04:54 AM
In an effort to end the foreclosure crisis, the Obama administration has been trying to keep defaulting owners in their homes. Now it will take a new approach: paying some of them to leave.
This latest program, which will allow owners to sell for less than they owe and will give them a little cash to speed them on their way, is one of the administration's most aggressive attempts to grapple with a problem that has defied solutions.
More than five million households are behind on their mortgages and risk foreclosure. The government's $75 billion mortgage modification plan has helped only … (6 comments)

Lack of focus or multi-tasking?
Via Team Knowles, Springfield Missouri Real Estate, Betty & John Knowles, REALTORS® (Keller Williams - www.teamknowles.com):
One of my big ah-ha moments at Keller Williams Family Reunion this year was that multi-tasking is a lie!  When I heard this I was crushed. I was always so proud to be considered a multi-tasker!   Then I find out it's all a lie!  Gary Keller points out that multi-tasking isn't true because when you multi-task nothing really gets done effectively and many times your unfocused efforts result in mistakes.
Instead, we need to prioritize and do the most important tasks … (2 comments)

Are Foreclosure Numbers On The Decline? - 03/01/10 10:12 PM
We recently read that for the first time since the housing crisis began, the number of homeowners falling behind on payments has decreased. This drop does not mean the end of the problems are at hand, just that it seems to be leveling off. There are still millions in foreclosure now and it will take some time for the market to absorb the foreclosed homes.
The article went on to say that economists see at least another 6 months of pressure on home values in some parts of the country and in high-foreclosure areas such as Southern California, Phoenix, Las Vegas … (8 comments)
