Located north of Pittsburgh, the bedroom community of Hampton Township was recently voted the Number 2 Best Town in the Country for Families by Family Circle Magazine. Of course, since I grew up there it doesn't surprise me at all! There is a great story this morning in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette talking about the real cost of commuting. It's a cost that is often overlooked but can significantly effect both your pocketbook and your sanity.
According to the story if you look at just housing costs 72 percent of neighborhoods in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area would be considered affordable to those making the median income. Fannie Mae and ENERGY STAR have both announced that they will be introducing new mortgage products and/or incentives for buyers that want to purchase an energy efficient home or make upgrades to a purchase. These will be new products from the current Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) and Energy Improvement Mortgage (EIM) that are now available. Existing-home sales fell as expected in December after first-time buyers rushed to complete deals during the months leading up to the original November deadline for the tax credit.
