Local development of the Douglas County Forest began in the late 1920s when the County obtained a large acreage through tax delinquency. However, when the acreage became a burden, the county was reluctant to accept additional lands that were logged over and destroyed by fires. The development of the County Forest Law paved the way and provided the means to establish the county forest and a new destiny.

The St Croix Flowage in Gordon, Wisconsin This post is in honor of this cabin I’ve just listed on the north shore of the Saint Croix Flowage, also known as the Gordon Flowage. At 1,913 acres, and with 29 miles of meandering shoreline, the Gordon Flowage is one of the largest, least developed lakes anywhere in northwestern Wisconsin. The Flowage is located near near Gordon, Wascott, and Solon Springs, and is just west of U.S. Highway 53. It’s right here in the Gordon-Solon Springs area. Because it traverses relatively open terrain, this segment is a good place to enjoy the vista. Near the north end of the route, there’s also a nice walk-in campsite overlooking Leo Creek.

The North Country Trail meanders all the way from Maine to North Dakota, in some cases incorporating existing trails like northeastern Minnesota’s Superior Hiking Trail. When completed, it will be 4,600 miles long. It’s administered by the National Park Service in cooperation with state and local agencies like the WI DNR, and nearly all trail building and maintenance is done by volunteers.
Although the trail still includes gaps where hikers are forced to settle for paved and dirt roads, the trail sections already completed include more miles than the entire Appalachian Trail. … (1 comments)

This 423-acre lake is located in the east-central Douglas County; most locals pronounce it “MIN-uh-sung.” It has a shoreline of around 7 miles, a maximum depth of 43 feet, and a mean depth of 18 feet. In it, you’ll find northerns, walleyes, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and panfish. Secchi disk readings are around 7 feet.
Minnesuing is a popular lake for boating and waterskiing. It has good public access, resorts and campgrounds, and nearby golf courses. This lake is located just 30 minutes from Superior and Duluth for shopping, healthcare, restaurants, and entertainment.
