Key West is a paradise and we intend to keep it that way. One of the organizations focusing on preserving our unique natural beauty is Reef Relief.  This not-for-profit organization was founded in 1987 and has become a major force in protecting and preserving the island's coral reefs.
Reef Relief organizes coastal clean-up days every year and hundreds of volunteers respond.  Volunteers remove thousands of pounds of debris not only from the reefs, but also the shorelines, sea grass beds, and mangrove estuaries. Goombay is the dancing and music associated with goombay drums, and goombay will fill the streets of Bahama Village in Key West from October 20-22.  Goombay drums are made of goatskin and held between the legs when played. This music was brought to Key West by immigrants from the Bahamas.
Colorful costumes, headdresses, masks, and steel drums also are a big part of the Key West Goombay Festival. The music will have you dancing and clapping to the beat. Key West to be the Commissioning City for the USS Spruance, the World's Most Powerful Warship - 09/18/11 05:58 PM
USS Spruance Commander Tate Westbrook made the request, and the Secretary of the US Navy has approved. This is big news for Key West since Commander Westbrook's request was to bring the USS Spruance to Key West for commissioning. The destroyer will be commissioned at sunset on Saturday, October 1st, after having docked at Key West on September 23rd.

Lower Keys Real Estate Market Report August 2011 - 09/04/11 03:38 PM
During the month of August 2011, there were 269 properties listed in the Lower Keys real estate market. Of these properties, 54 were contingent or pending on the last day of the month, and 18 had been sold. Last August the number of properties listed was 321, the number contingent or pending was 50, and the number sold was 7.  The trend of fewer listings and more sales continues to be GOOD NEWS for the Lower Keys.

Key West Real Estate Market Report August 2011 - 09/02/11 09:57 PM
During the month of August 2011, there were 384 properties actively listed in the Key West real estate market. Of these properties, 143 were contingent or pending on the last day of the month, and 37 properties had been sold. The number of properties sold is significantly higher than last month, and the number of active listings continues to drop. In the real estate market, this is GOOD NEWS.
