You Have to Live Somewhere . . .  Why Not Live in Your Own Home?

If you've been sitting on the fence trying to decide if you should rent awhile longer or go ahead and purchase a home while prices and interest rates are low, I think it helps to look at it as, "You have to live somewhere and either pay rent to your landlord or pay the mortgage which goes toward owning your own property."

Most sellers who are in this position, are okay with the fact they may not get as much as they would like for the home they are selling, once they do the numbers and realize that neither will the seller of they home they will be purchasing.  

It also helps knowing that interest rates are at near-historic lows and you can purchase more home for the money right now -- helps offset that "loss" a bit … (4 comments)

Don't believe everything you hear on the news!  The news is largely national.  Real estate is local!

The media can sometimes take a tidbit of information and turn it into a "chicken little" story -- it sells to the public!

I will say, however, that in Houston, they seem to have "gotten it."  Our local market is actually quite healthy.  It's not an extreme buyer's market, nor is it an extreme seller's market.  In general, it's just a good time to buy!  Our local media doesn't … (5 comments)

Donna Harris with RE/MAX Austin Skyline provided a good summary of the guidelines for homesteading your Texas home as well as details on the NEW LAW that applies to Texas Homeowners and the Homestead Exemption.
If you have recently purchased a home or if you have not homesteaded your home before, the new law will apply to you.  However, if you have previously homesteaded your property, you don’t have to do it again.
