christmas: The Reason for the Season- Joyful Giving - 12/23/20 01:00 PM
Giving is the greatest gift of grace.
Every holiday season I am reminded of how thankful I am for all of the people around me. Our team has grown over the years with each person growing in their own individual ways. We have blossomed into a successful business and a happy team.
With success comes the desire to put your gratitude into action. Each year we choose a local charity to support, and each year it warms my heart to watch our team give selflessly with so much heart and intention. Our Christmas Giving Tree was filled with tags this year benfitting Bridge … (14 comments)

christmas: Be JOYful for the holidays- Christmas Decorations to Remember - 12/23/20 12:23 PM
As you can imagine, being named Joy means that friends, family, neighbors, and clients consistently send me photos of items this time of year that say JOY.
In fact, the number of gifts I have gotten over the years have helped to create an impressive collection of signs, ornaments, and other knick-knacks with my name on them. No time is better than Christmas to break out these lovable objects to help decorate. Here are some of the holiday decor you will find at my house during this wonderful time of year:

christmas: Holiday Blues? Take Some Time to Relax this Season - 12/14/18 12:34 PM
December is a busy month both personally and professionally.  The holiday expectations added to the fray, so I want to encourage you to enjoy the Season and if things start to feel stressful, following these simple tips.

Breathe.  Inhale deeply from your diaphragm.  Hold your breath and count to four, filling your belly and chest.  Then slowly exhale to a count of four.  Repeat this a few times.  This relaxes your entire system. Listen to your body.  What are your muscles, stomach, joints, neck, shoulders, back, and feet telling you?  To take a break?  Get a massage?  Rest?  Seek medical help?    … (9 comments)

christmas: Bridge of Hope - 11/22/16 02:04 PM
We put up our Christmas trees early this year. We have one at our "East" shore office and one at our "West" shore office.  No I am not at the coast, but in the middle of Harrisburg and the Susquehanna River separates our shores. It's less than 1 mile wide, but it's definitely a clear division.

Our company likes to show our support in the community.  This year we have partnered with Bridge of Hope, Harrisburg, PA.  It is a wonderful organization helping Central PA families (usually single mothers with children). The tags on the trees represent the needs of these families such as winter … (8 comments)

LCBC Christmas Giving Tree

What  a great opportunity we had at our church!  So many children that wouldn't have Christmas presents if it weren't for the 100's of willing families that are open to sharing with them.  We had a Giving Tree at our office too.  It's what Christmas is all about and I am happy that we have so many opportunities to bless others.  I want to encourage those of you that know of these types of opportunities (they are everywhere!) to take advantage and give.

There are SO MANY ways to help others this Christmas.  Every year our church helps Operation Christmas Child part of Samaritan's Purse International Relief.  They work with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.
Anyone that wants to fill a shoe box with gifts can take an empty shoe box and a boy/girl label and a list of items that are suggested for different age groups.
My granddaughter and I take a box each year and fill the box with items for a girl that would be in … (3 comments)

christmas: The Pumpkin has a Colorful History - 11/12/13 10:51 AM
Pumpkins are native to the western hemisphere and have been cultivated in North America for 5,000 years. The Iroquois Indians were quite skilled in growing the famous member of the gourd family. While the men hunted, the women tended to the crops. Each spring the ground was prepared and the women carefully dug holes for the planting. Into each hole they placed a fish along with corn, bean and pumpkin seed. The fish fertilized the ground and the corn stalk provided support for the bean plant to climb on. The pumpkin plant offered ground cover to keep the weeds out, and … (2 comments)

I bring you good news of GREAT joy!   Yesterday I posted about Christmas traditions around the world, so today I wanted to share some of our family Christmas traditions and they start with "joy!"
Christmas a wonderful time to focus on the "joy" of relationships, the "joy" of  helping others, the "joy" of celebration, giving, and rememberance.
There are many Christmas Songs that "sing" about the joy of Christmas - "Joy to the World", "Ode to Joy" (that the ringtone on my cell phone all year!) and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"
We decorate our home with lots of "joy" and now our … (8 comments)

christmas: Giving Tree - 12/11/12 10:23 PM

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I wrote a post last week on The Giving Tree that we have in the lobby of our Harrisburg LCBC Church.  Call this a follow up post. . .
THE GIVING TREE                                                                             (BEFORE)

The gifts were due this Sunday and I had to take another picture!  How exciting to see so many gifts (we were to deliver them unwrapped, but include the wrapping paper) are now surrounding the tree.  It is very exciting to think about how many people that may not have received anything for Christmas will now get a gift.
I know from your feedback to … (6 comments)

christmas: The Giving Tree - 11/28/12 08:18 AM

The Giving Tree

The church I attend (LCBC - Lives Changed by Christ) does a "Giving Tree" gift exchange each year.  There is a large Christmas Tree in the Lobby and hanging on the tree are tags with the name of a Central Pennsylvania Ministry and a gift request for a child (specified boy or girl).  People from LCBC are asked to select a tag and purchase the requested gift and bring the unwrapped gift along with wrapping paper/bows/gift tag to the church by December 9th.  These gifts will be picked up by the requesting Ministry and given to the child … (10 comments)

christmas: WAIT!! Fall has just started - It's too soon for Winter Displays! - 10/14/12 09:57 AM
Do Woolly Bear Caterpillars Forecast Winter Weather? The Farmer's Almanac states that according to legend, the wider that middle brown section is (i.e., the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter.  When my husband and I were out walking today. . . enjoying the Fall weather, we saw several of these woolly creatures.
Then we went to several shopping stores and several of them had their Christmas Displays up (I do love JOY Christmas ornaments, but not in October!).
We drove by Hershey Park and … (3 comments)

christmas: Tips for Keeping your Pet SAFE During this Holiday Season! - 12/24/11 03:22 PM
This time of year we fill our homes with seasonal cheer for ourselves and our families.  However, what seems beautiful and harmless to us may pose hidden dangers to our pets.  Below are some holiday hazards for dogs and cats and ways to prevent them.

Dangerous Foods    The following can be toxic to pets: chocolate, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts, garlic, onion, alcohol, caffeinated beverages, bread dough, and sugar-free candy and gum containing the artificial sweetener xylitol.
Regular Foods    Despite tradition, bones should never be given to pets. Even beef, ham, and other "regular" foods that are not considered toxic can cause illness … (7 comments)

christmas: Christmas cookies an oldie but goodie! - 12/21/11 01:15 PM
My famlily may not agree 100%, but I can bake.  Christmas Cookies are a fun part of the Christmas season!  My favorite type of cookie is Sandtart! I love sandtarts and they are a great cookie for kids to "sprinkle" and you can cut any design.  I hope you enjoy my favorite cookie recipe for Christmas.

Sandtart Cookies 3/4 lb butter 3 eggs 2 c. sugar 4 c. flour
Mix together and chill.  Roll out dough as thin as possible and cut out with your favorite cookie cutters. Sprinkle with colored sugars and Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.

We are days away from Christmas!  Today I got my nails done, I chose RED  of course!  I did then meet a client for a pre-settlement walk-thru and I went into the office and helped answer phones because 3 of our admin staff were off work today.   One of our lenders delivered a pointsetta and a box of chocolates and our printer delivered homemade cookies.  It was a very quiet day, we enjoyed Christmas music, our Christmas Tree and the cookies that were delivered.

But it's getting close to Christmas.  Do you have your Christmas Tree yet?  If you live in … (5 comments)
