Charleston Door Knockers - Part II - Old, Unusual, Anitque Door Knockers - Video
Immediately after publishing the first video of "Door knockers in Charleston", I realized that I was'nt finished with the subject.  More door knockers were spotted on my very next trip downtown Charleston.  These door knockers are even more unusual than the door knockers in the first post.  These door knockers were located in the very, very old part of Charleston which dates back to the 1700's.

Recycle containers in Charleston, SC - coming soon ?
The truck was spotted.....calls were placed....and here's the scoop:

Yes, some lucky residents are getting new recycle containers.  The recycle containers are BIG, have WHEELS,  and even come with attached lids to cover the recycle items !!  The new recycle bins are large enough to accomodate recycle items collected throughout the two week recycle pick-up period.  Residents will agree that having wheels on the recycle container will be a luxury, making the recycle trash containers much easier to manage.
Selected neighborhoods will participate in a six month trial period for the new recycle containers.  Those West Ashley neigbhorhoods are Northbridge Terrace and Charlestowne Estates I, … (0 comments)

Charleston Door Knockers - The old, unusual, and unique - video
Don't ask me why I'm writing a post on door knockers downtown Charleston, afterall, I sell real estate, not door knockers.  As I enter the historic homes of downtown Charleston, I always notice the door knocker.  This video displays some of the most interesting door knockers found in downtown Charleston.  Noticing the doors attached to the knockers and layers of paint on the doors, makes you wonder about the layers of history within the homes.Oh yes, notice a few doors painted in Charleston Green.  These little door knockers help make Charleston what it is today !

Alessi - Tampa's best Bakery since 1912 - 01/14/11 06:05 PM
Alessi  - Tampa's best bakery since 1912
Of course, that's MY OPINION, that Alessi is Tampa's best bakery since 1912. It is a tradition of a lifetime for my almost-sixty-year old husband !  Alessi is always a stopping point whenever visiting Tampa.  The tradition began for me in the late 1970's.  As departing Tampa, a stop by Alessi's to pick up Cuban sandwiches "for the road" was always a must.  Now, in the times of the internet, I read rave reviews about Alessi's Cuban sandwiches.  The last time I was in Tampa, I capured a few colorful images of Allessi's creations.  These edibles are ART !!

Assessments, Mills, and Property Tax Bills in Charleston, SC - 01/06/11 04:51 PM
Assessments, Mills, and Property Tax Bills in Charleston, SC
Each year property owners receive a friendly note from our local tax authority saying we owe them money for our vehicles we drive and for real estate we own.  Often times, we are too busy with our daily routines to really question:  How did they come up with this number ?
There are four factors used in the formula:  Appraised Value
                                                                                    Assessment Ratio
                                                                                    Total assessment
                                                                                    Millage rate
Appraised value - is the fair market value that a property would be expected to sell on the open market.

Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum - Charleston, SC - 01/05/11 10:46 AM
Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum - Charleston, SC
Sorry, but I have to say it one more time:  another one of Charleston's hidden jewels.  Charleston is so fortunate to host one (of nine) Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum.  Historic documents housed in a historic building.  How fitting is that ?
The Karpeles Manuscript Library is the largest collection of privately owned original documents in the USA.  Dr. Karpeles and his wife Marsha founded the institution in 1983.  The documents are rotated among the nine libraries.
The Charleston location was previously St. James Methodists Church which dates back to 1791.  The church also served as a … (2 comments)

Inside historic CITY HALL - Charleston, SC via video
City Hall is another one of Charleston's hidden jewels.  The building was built in 1801 as a bank and was purchased by the city in 1818 to be used as a city hall.  Even though City Hall is a functioning city hall, City Hall is much like a museum, containing original historic portraits displayed in the council chamber: George Washington, General Beauregard, John C. Calhoun, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson.  Is located at 80 Broad Street and is open to visitors.
