safety: Why I love living in Carova: The community - 02/10/13 08:34 PM
One of the wonderful things about Living is Carova, NC is the sense of community. One of the places easiest to see that is at our Fire Department. Each month dozens of unpaid volunteers come to get training so that we are ready when the real calls come in. Some part timers drive over 6 hours just to be a part of this.  This week-end the training was on safety & rescue. Watch as these unpaid volunteers practice getting into their protective gear and attempt a rescue into a burning building.

safety: The Rules of the Road... I mean Sand (pt.2) The Corolla Wild Horses - 07/19/12 09:02 PM
Here in Carova, NC we work very hard to keep the Corolla Wild Horses living amongst us. They keep our communities unique & special. working to keep the horses protected & healthy, the county has set some specific rules. Of course people are NOT to feed them. One of those rules is that ATVs are not allowed without a permit? To get a permit for your ATV you must be a property owner in Currituck County, and the vehicle must be registered with the county. So if you are coming fro out of town to vacation here for the week, don't bother towing your toys down behind you. The police do check for the … (0 comments)

safety: 811: The Number To Call For A Different Situation - 08/10/10 11:13 PM
Since today is  August 11 (8-11 day), I thought I would share a different phone number the is useful in North Carolina. It is 811, and it is an important number to call before digging across our state!
You should call 811 before any digging project - large or small. One free call to 811 a few days prior to digging starts the process of having underground utility lines marked. This simple call reduces the chance of diggers unintentionally striking a utility line and causing inconvenient outages, harm to themselves or someone else, and/or repair costs.
