military: Hospice Equivalent for Military Veterans - 05/26/15 08:17 AM
Many people may not be aware of all of the benefits provided for our Veterans.  I'll admit, as a Veteran myself,  I don't know either.  A new update was recently posted regarding healthcare, so I thought as we recently observed Memorial Day I would share this important update with you.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers can give the Veteran's care-giver (family member or friend) a "break" by taking over the Veteran's care for a limited time, similar to Hospice, but is called "Respite Care" and VA medical centers may provide respite care to an eligible Veteran for up … (0 comments)

military: Senators push bill to safeguard local bases - 03/29/09 03:29 PM

State Sen. Don Gaetz thinks there may be reason to worry about Florida's military bases, and says military spending could be reduced, leading to more base realignments and closures, even if the process is never called "BRAC." While he thinks it can happen within the next few months, I promise nothing regarding the military happens in months. Last week, Gaetz introduced a bill  which was co-sponsored by Sen. Durell Peaden, R-Crestview, the bill will establish a Florida Council on Military Base and Mission Support with nine unpaid members: three each appointed by the governor, president of the Senate and speaker … (0 comments)

military: Should the Media Be Allowed to Photograph Fallen Heroes Returning to Dover AFB? - 02/26/09 04:28 PM
I think that President Obama made a wise decision to leave it up to the families.  Personally, as a 20 year USAF Veteran, I think it is a very somber and private moment in time forloved ones.  I used to be stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware.  It is the port of entry for remains returning from the European theater.  And having been a member of the Services Squadron and the Aerial Port Squadron, I understand what the media fails to, and that is the delicacy of the situation.  The people that take part treat every moment with the reverence and honor … (0 comments)
