Unclaimed Property from State of California--Millions could be waiting for you! - 01/29/12 05:33 PM
I received an email yesterday with a link to the California State Controllers website. I followed the link and did a search for my name and my husband's name... and actually found an account that my husband had not claimed with the address of our former business.   The State of California currently has over $6.1 billion in Unclaimed Property belonging to 17.6 million individuals and organizations. That's nearly half of the state's population!
California's Unclaimed Property Law which requires "holders" such as corporations, business associations, financial institutions, and insurance companies to annually report and deliver property to the Controller's Office after … (4 comments)

Will You Present a "Verbal Offer" to your Seller?? - 01/24/12 07:27 PM
I received a call from an agent who had shown one of my listings in La Quinta Country Club.  She started by telling ME everything that was wrong with the home.  She would "Not even camp-out overnite there!"  The kitchen was this and the flooring was that.  It has a funny smell, and those cracks are scary.
I'm aware that this listing is a fixer.  It was built in 1978 and is all original.  I know that there are cracks and that it smells kind of funny.  No one has lived in the home for over 2 years... it has been … (14 comments)

Driving Aunt Daisy... My Treasured Referral - 01/23/12 06:28 PM
Early last fall our own Jeff Dowler contacted me regarding his Aunt Daisy from Boston... who was considering a lease in the Palm Springs area for the winter.  I was honored to have Jeff call me to take care of his Aunt and valued his trust in me.
Aunt Daisy is an older lady, with mad computer skills.  She is and expert on her MAC computer, and prefers emails to phone calls because it is hard for her to hear on the phone.  I began by emailing Aunt Daisy listings in the areas I thought would be best for her.  She … (18 comments)

All we have to do is an inspection?? - 01/06/12 05:32 PM

It isn't the buyers who aren't ready to go...it's the sellers. - 01/05/12 02:05 PM
It isn't the buyers who aren't ready to go... it's the sellers.
The latest installment from our California Association of Realtors included information on a study by the Mortgage Bankers Association.  It shows that prospective home buyers believe that given today’s affordable home prices and low interest rates, now is a good time to buy.  However, potential sellers are nearly unanimous in reporting that it is not a good time to sell a home, citing difficulty in finding buyers at desired sales prices.
The study utilizes 30 years of data from the University of Michigan’s Survey of Consumer Attitudes to examine … (1 comments)

Wild Boar Hunting in Texas... anyone? - 01/04/12 03:47 PM
My husband, Bob and his oldest friend, Fred, (not oldest person-- friends since they were 4 years old) are going on a wild boar hunting trip in Texas.  They have hunted together for years, but this will be their first trip to Texas.
Some of you know that I grew up in a rural area of New Mexico and went to college at Texas Tech in west Texas-- so I am familiar with the terrain.  As this hunting trip has unfolded... it turns out that Bob is just finding out the details of their adventure.  And they leave tomorrow.

Start off the Year Doing Something Good for Someone - 01/03/12 05:09 PM
Two days ago I received a call from a distraught woman regarding a home I have for lease.  She and her husband (and four children) had done a short-sale on their home.  They were told they needed to move on Dec 30th, so they had rented a truck and packed their things.  The home they had planned on leasing turned out to be a "foreclosed" property and would not be rentable for long.  Their current agent was working part-time as an agent and full time at Sam's Club.  He was not helping them with the next step in their adventure.
