Did you know that thousands of piers will not be grandfathered if they don’t register with the DNR by April 1, 2012? Are you aware of a loophole in the law that allows the DNR to require a permit for or order removal of existing piers if the DNR determines that the water has significant scientific value? If you are tired of hearing about new legislation, grandfathering or loopholes related to piers, please contact your Legislator and ask him/her to end the debate by passing Senate Bill 326/Assembly Bill 421, which grandfathers ALL existing piers and eliminates the pier registration requirement.

The governor signed the bill at the Golden Mast Inn on Okauchee Lake near Oconomowoc last Friday morning. The bill's author, Republican Rep. Joel Kleefisch of Oconomowoc. Culling refers to catching a fish, keeping it in a live well and then throwing it back after catching a bigger fish. The practice is illegal in Wisconsin, but the bill creates an exemption for bass tournaments. Kleefisch says the change will draw larger tournaments to the state.
