Okay, my favorite time of year is here again.  I wait all year for this and I'm counting down the days until Friday. I really can't wait, I feel like a kid at Christmas!  Are you wondering what it is??  It's the STATE FAIR OF TEXAS!  I have to admit that I'm a bit of a nut for the Fair.  I take a day off of work during the week and make my husband came with me so that I can enjoy the Fair without the weekends crowds.  I started this little tradition when I returned to Dallas from college 10 years ago. … (16 comments)

Well, the Plano Balloon Festival is over and the Plano West Rotary club had another successful fundrasing event.  We had 2 spaces this year - one booth and one trailer.  The funnel cakes were a big hit again!  I worked the event on Friday night for 6 hours and then on Sunday morning at 6am and by 6:30am we were already selling the funnel cakes!  It surprises me every year that people want funnel cakes that early in the morning but we are happy to sell them.  The final numbers aren't in but we had over $20,000 in sales so that means about $12,000 … (4 comments)

Great Books about Animal True Stories - 09/12/07 09:43 AM
I thought I'd share two great animal non-fiction books with all the animal lovers on Active Rain.  I just finished both these books in the last 2 weeks and I really enjoyed them.  I had emergency surgery 6 weeks ago so I've had lots of time to read!  
The first book is Chosen by a Horse by Susan Richards.   
This is a beautiful story about a woman who rescues a neglected horse and at the same time is changed. The rescued horse, Lay Me Down, has a gentle and loving nature even after suffering a terrible life at the hands … (8 comments)

Downtown @ Sundown in Plano -Sept. 8 - 09/03/07 07:14 PM
Just a reminder, the 2nd Downtown @ Sundown is this Saturday, Sept. 8 in Plano.  The event is from 5pm - 10pm.  I went to the event last month and it was fun.  The live music was great and the stores stayed open late.  Of course, I did some shopping and enjoyed myself.  Hopefully, the weather will be a little cooler this weekend to make staying longer a little more enjoyable.  Parking was easy and even though they are doing road construction in downton Plano, it was quick to get in and out.

Did any of your favorite NFL teams have some surprises in their cuts today? 
I was surprised by one of the Cowboys cuts.  They released 13 year veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn! I know he is getting older and isn't up to his Pro-Bowl status but with the injury to starter Terrance Newman, I thought the Cowboys would keep him.

The Plano Balloon Festival is coming up soon on September 21 - 23 at Oak Point Park in Plano, Texas. 
  Our great City even has its own Balloon!
This year will be my fourth time at the Plano Balloon Festival and it is GREAT experience every time!  It is one of the best festival in the entire DFW area.  You get to see hundreds of colorful and fun balloons!
