Bayfield Wisconsin Ice Caves are Open 
 
According to information provided by some friends (and verified on the Web), the ice caves at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore are now open and accessible.
Park rangers have reportedly cored the ice between the caves and Meyers Beach, and have found the ice thick enough to accomodate tourist traffic.
The ice caves are awesome and beautiful!  You'll need a parking permit or 2009 seasonal pass in order to bring your vehicle into the Meyers Beach lot.  You can call the Visitor Center at (715) 779-3398 x399 to verify if the lot is open … (3 comments)

meyers beach: Vehicle Traffic to Ice Caves Suspended at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore - 03/26/08 04:27 PM
Due to deterioration of the shoreline approach resulting from warm weather, the Park Service has suspended vehicle traffic access to the Ice Caves at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
While there is no longer access to the ice caves by vehicle permitted, foot traffic is still allowed.  There is a $3.00 daily parking fee at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore parking area (Meyers Beach) for ice caves visitors.  Meyers Beach is located eighteen miles west of Bayfield, Wisconsin, off Highway 13.

meyers beach: Apostle Islands Make the 2007 "Blue Wave Beaches" List! - 10/05/07 01:27 PM
Three beaches in Wisconsin's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore have received the 2007 "Blue Wave Beaches" award from the Clean Beaches Council, a non-profit organization in Washington D.C.  Beaches in twenty states, plus American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands, made this year's list.
The three award-winning beaches in the Apostle Islands area were Julian Bay Beach, Little Sand Bay Beach and Meyers Beach.  There was one other winning beach in Wisconsin, North Beach in Racine.
The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is well-known for its sea caves and pristine beaches which attract kayak enthusiasts each summer.  Despite its popularity, the area has maintained its sense of isolation and superb attention to wilderness … (9 comments)
