There will not be any garbage, waste or recyling collection on Good Friday (Friday, April 6, 2012) in the parts of Markham, Ontario that normally have their collection day on Fridays.
Collection day will occur on Saturday, April 7, 2012 and your waste material will need to be by the curb by 7:00 a.m.

Markham Civic Centre Outdoor Ice Rink Now Closed for Season
The new Markham Civic Centre outdoor ice rink, which first opened in late 2011, has now closed for the 2011 / 2012 ice skating season.
The Town of Markham reports that over 15,000 skaters used this beautiful outdoor ice rink which is conveniently located on the grounds of the Markham Civic Centre located on the northwest corner of Warden Avenue and Highway 7 East.
We all look forward to the 2012 / 2013 ice skating season.

Markham Civic Centre Ice Rink Temporarily Closed Due to Warm Weather
The Town of Markham has announced that the ice rink at the Markham Civic Centre is temporily closed due to warm weather. Water from melting snow has been flowing onto the pad and melting the existing ice. Due to the expection of 10 to 15 mm of rain, rebuilding of ice is prevented temporarily.
the Town of Markham hopes to have the ice rebuilt and have the ice rink re-opened on Tuesday March 6, 2012.

The Town of Markham and the Pan Am 2015 Games Committee held the first official unveiling of the proposed 2015 Pan Am Games facility in Markam on February 16, 2012.
The facility is proposed to be 142,000 square feet and construction is expected to commence in July 2012 and completed in 2014. It will be located at 16 Main Street Unionville South, just south of Highway 7 on a 13 acre property. 2012 Markham Budget - 1.5% Tax Rate Increase
The Town of Markham has announced that Markham Council has approved its 2012 Budget with a 1.5% tax rate increase which is below the current rate of inflation of 2.3%.
Markham had a zero tax rate increase in 2009, 2010 and 2011. It was the only municipality in the Greater Toronto Area with such an achievement.
