We are beginning to see some positive signs in our local real estate market. The sharp declines that occurred in 2008 and 2009, are beginning to trend upwards. Activity is up as buyers continue to look for bargains, and take advantage of the high inventory of available homes for sale. Home buyer tax credits may have had some impact, but not as much as they have in areas that have more first time, and primary home buyers. There has been a lot of interest in log cabins this winter in Ruidoso. In a mountainous resort area like Ruidoso, you would think that log homes would be very common, but this is not the case. There are many log sided and cedar sided homes, but true log homes are few and far between. This was brought to my attention a few weeks ago, when I had some customers looking for a log home within close proximity to Ruidoso, and only a few listings matched their criteria. As summer approaches, I’ve received an increasing number of calls from people planning to visit Ruidoso over the next few weeks with thoughts of purchasing a “summer get-away”. In most, but not all cases, these folks are coming from somewhere in Texas and their primary goal is to purchase a second home that they can use in the summer to escape the heat.
