Ridgewood Downtown for the Holidays 2008! - 10/14/08 11:00 PM
The annual tree lighting in Ridgewood is the highlight of our Christmas season. Here is a blog I wrote last year about how much fun we had. I was lucky enough to capture my daughter on video singing Jingle Bells at the local Starbucks. Here is the schedule:
Please notice that the day has changed.
This year it will be on Friday December 5th. Not the typical Saturday that we have become used to.
Ridgewood is beginning a wonderful new tradition by planting a live tree in Van Neste Memorial Square.
There will be no need to chop … (4 comments)

Short Sale Foreclosure Scam, Predators Lurking, Keep Your Sellers Safe! - 10/14/08 10:33 PM
I received this crazy letter. Make sure you read it. I wanted to share an experience I had today. I have been working on negotiating this short sale for the last few months. We had an offer approved by the bank and then the buyer backed out. We submitted a lower offer from a different buyer and the bank offered a counter offer. So now I know what the bank will accept for the home. My seller received this letter in the mail, thankfully she put me in touch with this person and didn't bother contacting him directly

Happy Columbus Day... Celebrate with a Columbus Day Poem - 10/13/08 03:47 PM
In honor of Columbus Day here is a famous Columbus Day poem that tells the story of how Columbus discovered America back in 1492 and starts off with a rhyme we should all be familiar with!
In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.
A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.
Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.

Bring on the.... Warm Weather??? - 10/13/08 03:32 PM
it's October 13th and I was hoping to finish the title of this blog with snow... Bring on the snow!  But instead its in the mid 70s, sunny, warm and t-shirt weather.  Now what ever happened to the great fall weather we were having?  I'm looking forward to chilly nights and crisp mornings where I can see my breath.  70 degrees is certainly not leaf viewing temperatures!
Here's a great picture of the leaves changing in Northern New Jersey and New York's Hudson Valley.

AIG Executives at a Resort Days After Bankruptcy - 10/08/08 03:29 PM
Has anyone else seen or heard about this story?  I first heard about it last night on the news and was amazed!  Days after AIG received millions of taxpayer dollars in a loan from the government their executives were at a California resort on a week long getaway.  The total cost of this getaway was $443,000!  This doesn't seem like the type of spending that a company who was just bailed out from the government should be making.  This is an incredible story that speaks to the greed of executives.  Clearly, they do not care about the state of their company … (4 comments)

Travel Back in Time and Walk with the Dinosaurs - 10/07/08 06:18 PM
Any families with kids should check out Walking with Dinosaurs at the IZOD Center.  From the commercials and previews I have seen this looks like an incredible performance perfect for families with dinosaur loving children.  Dinosaurs roam the floor of the arena like they did millions of years ago.  This is an international sensation and with tickets for as little as $25 it is a bargain!

Wall Street Plunge... Is the End Anywhere in Sight? - 10/07/08 06:13 PM
Today the stock market fell another 500 points continuing its slide toward the 9,000 point mark.  The financial crisis in America has become a global crisis as banks and governments across the world feel the effects of the Wall Street meltdown.  Watching the news tonight I heard about how governments are cutting interest rates and seizing banks as their economies plummet.  Is there an end in sight?  For those who have a 401k and retirement investments... will we be able to retire when we want to?  This is going to take a long time to fix and the effects will be … (6 comments)

Ridgewood NJ: Towns That Could Be Hit Hardest by the Financial Crisis - 10/03/08 12:33 PM
Business week had a very interesting article on Towns that could be hit hardest by the financial crisis on Wall Street.
Here is a link to the whole article as well as a link to our very own Ridgewood, NJ. This article is clearly pointing to what we all know. There is a crisis on Wall Street and now on Main Street. We are fortunate to be so close to Manhattan and have such highly rated schools. Ridgewood Schools were ranked #7 of 316 public schools in New Jersey (Number 1 in Bergen County).

Senate Votes For Bailout Bill Today - 10/01/08 02:41 PM
The Senate is scheduled to vote tonight on the $700 billion bailout package put together by the government.  The bill they will be voting on is similar to the one defeated by the House of Representatives earlier in the week, with some minor changes.  Tax breaks and a higher limit for insured bank deposits have been woven into the bill to hopefully make sure the House will approve this version.  So the big question tonight... Will the Senate pass this bill and if they don't, what will happen to the stock market tomorrow?  I'd hate to see another repeat of a … (3 comments)
