Google Fiber is coming to Charlotte, and here are a few quick details about the project: The installation of Google fiber will not happen overnight, and an exact timeline has not yet been provided. Google fiber is will provide broadband speeds 100x faster than what we are used to now. Exact pricing has not yet been announced, but elsewhere in the country Google charges around $70-per month for internet and $120 for an internet/television combination. We can probably expect more competitive pricing among providers for internet and TV services, even in the surrounding areas. Most people with mobile phones have heard about the upsurge of the 4G network. What many people don't know is that there is different types of 4G. There is HSPA+, which stands for Evolved High Speed Packet Access, and that is the lower end of 4G. By lower end I mean the slightly less powerful version of 4G and on the higher end is 4G LTE, meaning Long Term Evolution. This year's Summer Olympics are going to be a huge event, and Charlotte has a fair amount of competitors in it. We get to see if Michael Phelps is still the high and mighty (no pun intended) swimmer we all saw and loved four years ago. However, while Michael will have the spotlight on him this year, some Charlotte swimmers may take that spotlight away. Earlier last week Michael Phelps announced he is dropping out of the 200 freestyle, so Charlotte's own Ricky Berens, South Mecklenburg High School graduate, will rise to the occasion. Charlotte has many 4th of July events spread throughout the entire city. Every event has different things for everyone, from the Charlotte Symphony to The Charlotte Knights baseball team. The Charlotte Symphony will be performing at Southpark and will be playing good old fashioned patriotic tunes. WBT will be having a Skyshow at Charlotte Knights Stadium after the game. Also the Whitewater Center will be having live music starting at 4pm and a firework show starting at nightfall. If you live in Charlotte already, you know that Noda is our, beautiful and rich in culture, historic art district. Finally Noda is having a music festival, which was a long time coming. It will be all great music and will last from June 1st to July 30th. You can purchase your tickets online here. Following the Bobcats terrible season, actually the worst winning percentage in NBA history, the Bobcats began searching for a new head coach on May 8th. Ten candidates later, the search is over! Mike Dunlap has an impressive history, he was an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets and was head coach at St. Johns temporarily while Steve Lavin was out.
