Understanding Staging for Seniors - 02/25/09 07:15 AM

There is a huge group of our population that deserves a shout out!  They are our Seasoned Citizens - those that have lived through many stages of life and are embarking on a new journey of the "Golden Years."   All seasoned citizens deserve our thanks for the contributions they have made to our society and the wisdom they share with us daily.
Becoming a "seasoned or senior citizen" does not come without changes in lifestyle.  Many seniors decide that their current living arrangement no longer works for them.  Some may be approaching an age where caring for a … (15 comments)

Humble Beginnings - 02/14/09 10:24 AM
My career in Staging started on a whim.  My brother is a real estate developer in Cleveland, Ohio and he had just purchased two older apartment buildings in a hip part of town that he was going to renovate and sell as condos.  His designer that had worked for him on previous projects couldn't help him on this one and I happened to be visiting and I asked him if I could take a look.  He agreed and a passion emerged that I didn't know I had.
These buildings were very old - radiators, old plumbing, faulty electrical,  - you all … (15 comments)

Making Sense of Scents - 02/08/09 08:06 PM

I spoke with a realtor today about a showing she had over the weekend at a house with that "Smell" thing going on.  She said even the client couldn't wait to get out of the house.  It reminded me of this article I wrote for The News Enterprise.

          Making Sense of Scents
Odor is usually not a word that conjures up positive thoughts.  The way something smells can be an extremely powerful motivator, so when selling your home, it is more important than ever to pay attention to odors.  One goal of Staging is to make the … (16 comments)

Staging Inventory - Free - 02/06/09 09:47 PM

Any stagers, decorators or designers out there that may be looking for twigs, sticks, branches or bunches?  I have some amazing inventory for you.  You can have it for free but you have to haul it.  You are welcome to as much as you can handle.  Of course you probably want to see the inventory first so here are some  pictures:
Back yard- see the swingset is crushed!
                      Front yard

This is some of the debris left over from last week's ice storm.  We were very fortunate not to have any damage to the house - there were many … (16 comments)

Change Victim - not me! - 02/05/09 08:29 PM
For many years I taught a class on Adapting to Change.  I have been named the education coordinator for the women's networking group that I belong to and decided that "change" would be a great topic to discuss today at our meeting.  I added some fresh research to the old lesson, but the gist was still - are you going to be a change victim or a change master?  Can you adapt to the times to have your business survive the slow down?
My research yielded information that applied to survival in today's economic climate.  Many experts encourage additional marketing and relationship building.  Getting in contact with those … (19 comments)

What does a car for sale have to do with Staging? - 02/04/09 09:39 AM
I was reading through several blogs the other night and a common topic was how do you convince homeowners and realtors to use staging.  I bang my head against the wall with it continually trying to find new ways to "sell" staging services.  When I went through my ASP course, one of the great analogies that Barb Schwarz used was "detail your house like you would detail your car".  I took off on that thought in one of my articles for our local paper.  I thought I would share it with the Active Rain community.
Have you ever tried to sell your … (7 comments)

Staging for Survival - 02/02/09 09:51 PM
Okay I am a home stager.  I often advertise that I stage not only to sell, but stage to live, stage to work and am even throwing in my hat at Staging for seniors.  Today I realized that I could add one more - I have now Staged for Survival.
Sounds drastic doesn't it?  Today I purchased a day-glo orange rubbermaid bin that you can't miss - even in the dark.  I wanted something that I would stand out even without a flash light.  I wanted somewhere to put all of the great items that saved me and helped me survive this … (16 comments)
