Tax free shopping holiday begins tomorrow, August 21. This year for the first time school supplies have been added to the tax-free shopping list. This should help many parents save by shopping during the upcoming tax free holiday, which runs Friday through Sunday. Texas shoppers will be exempt from local and state sales taxes for many school-related items during this time. Shoppers should save about 8% or $8 on every $100 spent. The Texas comptroller has exempted from sales tax clothing and footwear under $100, backpacks under $100 for elementary and secondary students, and layaway items. Only a few San Antonio stores will be open on Thanksgiving. Sports Authority, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Big Lots, and Michael will all be open. Check their hours before heading out. The San Antonio Express News had a coupon in today's paper for 25% off at Sports Authority and coupons will mostly likely be in the paper tomorrow. Some stores will open at midnight on Thanksgiving... that's 12:00 p.m. after your Thanksgiving feast, to get an early start on Black Friday, including Disney Stores, San Marcos Prime, Tanger outlet. A trip out into the Texas Hill Country is nice any time of the year and Becker Vineyards is providing a great excuse to do so the week-end after Thanksgiving. They will be hosting Christmas in the Vineyards, November 28 - 30, Friday - Sunday. The event is FREE and will be held in the Lavendar Haus Reception Hall "in front of the roaring fireplace." This is a great time for wine tasting as well as for shopping. There will be vendors, cooking demonstrations, live music, story telling, and concessions.
