Invite and encourage bloggers Despite the successes I have experienced by blogging on Active Rain, and even though my real estate friends appreciate that and understand how good Active Rain has been for me, they insist that they wouldn’t be able to do it. Either that or they simply say they don’t have time to blog. Recently I contacted some of my invitees to remind them that they hadn’t been blogging in awhile. I got a nice surprise last night. While I was eating dinner, I received a telephone call and voice mail that I didn’t discover until I realized after dinner that I had left my phone at the other end of the house. I saw that I had a message and listened to a nice Christmas greeting from my Active Rain friend Martha Brown. I was sorry I had missed her call, and returned it right away. Just when you thought everyone knew the value of Active Rain and blogging ... Jeff Dowler recently wrote a post on his blog responding to those who claim not to have time to blog. I'd say that some of the folks who answered the poll on the website of the California Association of Realtors should read his post and the many comments he received. Jeremy Blanton wrote an interesting post with an excellent analogy comparing today's marketing to the Miss America contest. Read his post. His point is that just like the Miss America contest has had to change with the times, so must we. And I agree - of the 60+ agents in our office, there are only 3 of us who have blogged, and I am the only one who has more than one post! I just got 2 milestones all at once! In 2 days I received 3 leads/referrals directly from Active Rain, and I have appointments with two of them already (one a seller and one a buyer), and at the same time I just noticed that I have over 10,000 points! Open houses are picking up more and more, even without my dragging my backside around distributing flyers all over the place (just an ad in Craigs List), and I am beginning to feel like the tide is turning, big time! I'm sure that like me, many of you have been glued to the TV screen following the progress and damage reports from Hurricane Gustav. Thankfully, it may not be as devastating as Katrina, but it still looks very bad. And the thing that is really disturbing is that our country may be hit with 2 more hurricanes within a week! Hanna and Ike are likely to be category 2 when they hit Florida and they are saying that Ike could possibly wind up going into the Gulf, which would be horrible for those people living along that coast.
