Fair Oaks CA wild turkeys are brave! These wild turkeys stop by our front yard twice a day on their rounds. I have no idea what they find to eat there, but they scratch through the fallen leaves from our magnolia tree and seem to find something. They don't seem to care if I'm standing with them, and in fact sometimes I have to shoo them away so I can get to my car to leave for a meeting.This group is two mamas (lighter color) and their adolescent broods. We had a nice Thanksgiving in San Luis Obispo this year. Jon’s parents are elderly and not well, and we didn’t want them to spend the holiday alone, so we drove down there and spent a couple of days, and fixed dinner for them. In previous years, we have dragged a bunch of stuff down there and cooked it there on unfamiliar stove and oven, etc, and struggled to find room in the fridge for what we brought. This weekend, November 18-20, the Harvest Festival comes to Sacramento, at Cal Expo, in Pavilion Hall. The Harvest Festivals are the largest indoor art and craft shows on the west coast, featuring over 24,000 American handmade items. This is their 39th year and there will be hundreds of exhibitors.
You’ll find jewelry, pottery, original art, toys, photography, textiles, bath and beauty products, clothing, home décor, and other surprises. As Thanksgiving approaches, our thoughts naturally turn to the many things for which we are thankful. Of course I’m thankful that my husband Jon and I and our children and their families are all well. This year especially, I am also thankful that Jon has a job he really likes. He was unemployed for more than a year and a half, and that was a stressful time – especially since my real estate sales seemed to slow a bit during that period too. Here is a wonderful Thanksgiving love song for you. It is sung by Johnny Cash to his wife June Carter Cash, and was part of the Thanksgiving episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman years ago. Johnny and June are both gone now, of course, but I, for one, am so glad that we still have moments like this to enjoy.
