Do you have a full bowl of alphabet soup?
SRES, GRI, CRS, RCS-D, E-Pro, EcoBroker, GREEN, LGLS CP, CLHMS, CSP, Etc...etc...
In a recent interview in the CAR (California Association of Realtors) Magazine Steve Goddard, CAR 2010 President, who has 13 real estate designations, was asked this question about designations.
'Q. If you had to recommend only one or two designations that an agent should earn in preparation for the market's return, which one(s) would it be?
A.  I'd recommend that newer agents - in the first 5 years of their career-obtain their Graduate REALTOR Institute (GRI).  Then the Certified Residential … (16 comments)

education: Clayton BookStore...amazing place to browse and get some history of Walnut Creek - 05/02/09 07:11 PM
Out in Clayton at the Clayton Valley Shopping Center, these type events are an everyday occurrence.  It is nothing to find a sports figure, children's author, children's story time, adult bookclub or other event at the bookstore.  Just like the old fashioned bookstore, it's a gathering place.  The staff and people are friendly and welcoming and we often take walks with the grandkids down to the bookstore to buy a book to further our reading efforts for the grandchildren.  It's refreshing and small town feeling.  We love our bookstore.  Tomorrow is this great event, hope you have time to stop by, … (2 comments)

education: The icing on the cake - Duncan Scott - 05/01/09 11:50 AM
Last week I attended the CSP Convention and was so happy to meet many of my favorite Active Rain friends in person!  This was a re-acquaint meeting with Duncan since we had met last year when training to be Live Green, Live Smart Instructors in Minneapolis.  I believe he's had the largest LGLS class to date.  YEAH Duncan.  And he's training for another role which I'm sure you'll all love hearing about sometime soon, right Duncan.  Secrets and surprizes, and Duncan is full of them.
What is most evident about Duncan is his boundless energy.  He is the consummate professional, an … (5 comments)

education: The icing on the cake - Jackson West - 05/01/09 11:33 AM
Not only was it a blast with inspirational, educational, phenomenal content at the CSP Convention, the icing on the cake was all the wonderful people I got to meet in person.
It's always interesting meeting people that you have met online.  You are excited, wondering if they will know who you are, wondering if you'll know who they are... yet when you walk in the room you recognize each other instantly.  The best part is that because you've read and commented on each other's blog posts you already feel like you know each other.
Last week when walking into the room … (7 comments)

education: Do you have listings that aren't moving? Need some information on a marketing approach that will really work? - 03/02/09 07:35 AM

We are all in the real estate business -Realtors, inspectors, escrow people, home warranty companies, sign companies, printers, PROFESSIONAL HOME STAGERS.  It starts with the client and Realtor, and these days the home staging professional.  The first line of contact is Realtor and home stager, sometimes a termite  or inspection company.  So, it helps to have a relationship with those people because we can cross refer for business.
I was recently talking with a group of home stagers and was told that their ratio of direct calls and consultations from  homeowners was up about 25%.  In years past that might … (2 comments)

education: The Times They Are A Changin' - 08/19/08 12:07 PM
What has caused the change, well really more of a healthy evolution, of the staging industry?  Eight years ago there were two main training offerings giving staging training and redesign, today there are about 25.  They are springing up all over North America with many trainers stagers/redesigners we all know and respect.   The training companies each offer a different take on the industry and fill in gaps in training.  It is a given that you must be creative.   Many people attracted to staging are creative and have not fully developed their business training.  There are those that got their training through … (14 comments)
