The Oyster Shell Sculpture Competition will take place Saturday as part of the annual Bivalve Bash and Low Tide Mud Runat the Taylor Shellfish Farms, 2182 Chuckanut Dr.The 15 three-person teams will have from 9am-1pm to create works of art using only the shells of the bivalves to bring their visions to life-no mud, rocks, seaweed, wood, clams, mussels or crab shells can be used for embellishments. The 40,000 shells they'll have on hand are trucked in from a shucking house in Shelton, Wash., where the company also operates it's oyster farms.

The Northwest Raspberry Festival is this weekend along Front Street in downtown Lynden. On Friday there will be free children's activities like face painting, inflatable bounce houses and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for kids in kindergarten through 2nd grade. Saturday, will have a display of classic cars at the Razz and Shine show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between 7th Street and 10th Street, and a 5K run/walk beginning at 9 a.m. at Lynden Christian High School. Yes it's true the $8000 tax credit for first-time home buyers has gone away. But there is a little-known federal income tax credit for home buyers that can help you buy a home. It's called the Mortgage Credit Certification program MCC for short. Mortgage Credit Certificate, is a certificate issued by certain state or local governments that allows a taxpayer to claim a tax credit for some portion of their mortgage interest each year. Here’s the secret to credit bureaus don’t want you to know. In 1971 the U.S. Congress passed the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Buried in this bill is section 609 where Congress required any information reported about you on your credit report must be backed up “verifiably prove.” The credit bureaus do not have any proof, and they never have since the laws passed, so they been operating outside the law for the past 39 years.
