If you work for Countrywide, uncertainty is the "soup" of the day
A lawsuit was started against  Countrywide for " loosened its underwriting standards" and other allegations as well.
Countrywide processesed between 15000 and 20000 loans per month a couple years ago. .
Most of those loand were legit, but as we are soon to find out, Realtors are going to be a pawn in this battle of blame for the sub-prime mess.
California, Illinois and Washington States are the first 3 going after Countrywide's unfair and deceptive(alleged)  practices in the sale of mortgage loans.

Fernando, what is a hardship letter anyways?  A hardship letter is when you tell the lender why you are not making your  mortgage payments. They will also request bank statements to provide them proof of how much cash you have, pay stubs for at least the last 2 months, if you are self-employed, you may have to provide proof of income by your deposits to the bank, copy of the check payable to you etc.

The lender will need to see a financial statement. They will also require you to present them with a copy of your tax returns plus copies of your checking and savings account.
If you have $50,000 in a 401K and/or savings, stocks, bonds or retirements accounts. . chances are that the lender will question as to why are you applying for a short sale if you have  money to pay the difference.
