This year, we received changes to both the Conventional and FHA loan limits locally here in Arizona, after both of those numbers stayed constant in 2016.
            For a number of years, the conventional loan limit for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac backed conventional mortgages was $417,000. However, that number has now been increased to $424,100 for 2017 for all conventional loans.
            That also means that for VA loans, the base loan limit is now also $424,100 to qualify for a home loan with a 0% down payment.

FHA mortgage loan limits saw a decrease as of October 1st, 2011, but now the Government has stepped in and reinstated the higher mortgage loan limits that we have seen in recent years.
 
In 2008, Congress temporarily increased the FHA loan limits to help alleviate the effects of the economic downturn. At that time Maricopa County here in Arizona saw the FHA loan limit raised to $346,250. This essentially meant that a buyer could finance a home up to $358,500, given the FHA's 3.5% minimum down payment.

What that means is that the Phoenix metropolitan area will keep its current loan limit of $346,250 on single family residences.
