charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: I just found a new PBS channel, CREATE TV; Have you seen it yet? - 06/25/11 06:03 AM
Stephen and I live in one of those close-to-town rural-ish spots that has cable television all around us, but we can't get it without spending a bunch of money to bring it to the house.  So, we've been DirectTV devotees for years.  When TV went digital, it didn't affect us at all, except for one really good thing... Whereas we were unable to receive local channels with DirectTV before, with the installation of an antenna, we now get at least eight local channels, three of which are PBS!  Before the change, we only had access to one PBS station via cable, … (2 comments)

charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: A day for celebration - 04/24/11 05:33 AM
Regardless of religious celebrations, this day in Charlottesville can be celebrated for the beauty of the day.  We've been blessed with plenty of rain so far this Spring, and everything is green and blooming in abundance.

My garden is generally more of a summer garden than a spring garden, but it's still fun to watch the perennials popping up and the shrubbery greening up.

My camera is not special enough to capture Mom's eyes, but she was definitely watching me from her perch on top of her eggs on this new nest.

Though I have huge pink … (3 comments)

charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: Where's the Charlottesville area real estate market today? - 03/21/11 01:27 AM
As we near the close of the first quarter, I am interested in seeing the final numbers when released within the next two weeks.  In the meantime, February figures are showing actual sales numbers flat (same as 2010) and prices down. Median Prices of Single Family Homes in our primary market area for February 2011:
Albemarle County 2011 February $334,500 vs. February 2010 $386,200, which shows a 14% decline in the price of homes purchased during thesame period Charlottesville (City) 2011 February $160,000 vs. February 2010 at $257,000...  not representative of the entire market, imo (too large a drop), but … (1 comments)

charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: You won't believe what I heard about Craigslist this week. - 03/07/11 01:27 AM
Last week, I invited a client to join me while I previewed one of her neighbor's homes, and then we went for lunch.  She lost he husband to cancer in October, and I really hadn't seen her since (just some Facebook time).  We had a really nice visit.  In fact, what I thought would be an hour and a half together becamse 3 hours lickety-split.
During our conversation, she mentioned that her best friend had gotten divorced and sold her house last year.  I opened my wallet and handed her three business cards! (ASK FOR REFERRALS!)
Then she mentioned that aquaintances … (96 comments)

charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: When the public comments and "it ain't pretty" - 03/03/11 03:22 PM
I had my first public comment the other day, and I had to delete it.
I have a series called "Charlottesville Living" that I post on Thursdays.  Each week, I am focusing on a different neighborhood.  These days, for some reason, the system is not alerting my email that I have comments, so I am checking my HOME page periodically to see who has commented.  This afternoon, I just happened to notice that a comment had been left on my very first Charlottesville Living post, which would have been five weeks ago.
Lo and behold, the commenter was a disgruntled homeowner.  … (21 comments)

charlottesville va realtor virginia gardner: Zero to 60 Charlottesville: Travel back in time at the Frontier Culture Museum - 02/14/11 10:17 PM
The Frontier Culture Museum is one of the newest historical sites in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and it is located just 45 minutes from Charlottesville in Staunton, Virginia.  It’s a really fascinating place…  The purpose is to present an accurate view of the lives of European and West African immigrants as they traveled to America, and then the lives that was theirs on arrival. To tell the story of these early immigrants and their American descendants, the Museum has moved or reproduced examples of traditional rural buildings from England, Germany, Ireland, West Africa, and America. From the Frontier Culture Museum website…  … (5 comments)
