Water in Fargo now at 41 feet & Cresting

See photos of the sandbagging efforts and view the Fargo/Moorhead flood area

Despite everyone's best efforts to keep up with the rising waters, in some areas there is already dike failure and subsequent flooding. The volunteers are growing weary but fresh replacements are still coming in. With the evacuations , there will be less time spend on rescue efforts as there will be less to rescue.  There will always be those who stay in their homes risking their lives and those of their rescuers. No one knows exactly how long the waters will keep rising and how long the crest will be sustained.

Update: Officials are now indicating that the crest has been reached and for the most part the sandbags are holding.

Kathleen, I heard about this on the news.  Thank goodness for those brave rescuers and I hope the ones that stay make it through well.

William - they are now saying 1 foot of snow or more - whew, they don't need that either.  Hope that the  temporary dikes hold.

Jim - I suppose it is the news in other areas as well. There are a lot of people affected. My niece was evacuated from college and sent home for up to 2 weeks.

I saw the snow was falling, maybe the only good thing about that is it is cold out which might freeze the water and hold it back.  One can hope....

Debra - the water doesn't really freeze well in this situation- the snow is just adding to the problem  - no one knows how much yet!

Debra - If you click on the time lapse image link in my blog, you can see the actual footage of whatever day you are looking.  With the recent snow fall(1 foot) and rain things have not improved a lot but most of the dikes held.

I am a little late on this one.  I hope everything held ok.  41' is pretty high.  I wish you and everyone in those flood areas the best.

Kathleen,

It amazes me how the infrastructure seems to be deteriorating around us.....we need more assistance ensure we do not have another N.O. disaster.
