Sayulita is Still a Hidden Treasure

The tiny village of Sayulita, Mexico, only has a population 2000.  For the longest time, it had been cut off from the rest of Mexico by jungle. Only a handful of travellers ever made it to this remote hamlet.

Recently, the Mexican goverment built a highway that now connects Sayulita to Puerto Vallarta.  Soon, the tourists began following the road, rearranging their trip planning and found beautiful, sandy beaches and rocking waves perfect for surfing.

Something else followed the tourists - development.  Real estate prices are now skyrocketing, and the once picturesque thatched-roof houses are disappearing under the bulldozers of progress.

But, Sayulita still holds onto its old village hat, and many Americans who have moved to the region are protesting any new developments.  They just don't want another Puerto Vallarta. Hopefully, the American strong-willed personality will keep the developers at bay and save this charming village, where fishermen still catch fresh fish and prepare them on the beach, lunch is taken in at tiny tortillerías, and everyday you just lounge around or work on the beach.
